I think you can blame TAF and the ticket office for all that was stated above and also for the number of fans that left at halftime due to the elements. I am a fan of raising money for the athletic department, but unfortunately the rising cost of bringing your family to an LSU game has filtered out many of the hard working fans who wouldn't be bothered by a little bit of rain. What it's left us with are a much higher percentage of fans who attend the games as a status symbol and as an opportunity to socialize with their friends. They won't stick it out in the rain, because their wives and sometimes the men spent hours and hours getting ready and wouldn't want their hair messed up by jumping up and down in some light rain.

I definitely think the atmosphere of TS has changed, but not the enthusiasm of the fanbase...just the type of fanbase in the game

This is very true. The ratio of "working class" and "blue blood" fans has definintly changed for the worse. However, that is only one part of it and I am, I am sorry to say, are an example of that.

I've had season tickets since 1994. I was probably one of the loudest, most "fanatical" (some would say, annoying) fans in TS. Tailgate all day, cheer and shout all game, celbrate (or dwon my sorrows) after the game. Well, starting in 2001, I had my first child, then another one a year and a half later.

That has had a significant impact.

Family obligations impede on gameday "preparation" and participation, the presence of your kids at the game constrains your drinking and your actions, and also spurs a return home afterwards. In other words, I have sadly, "matured". Now, I am not saying that other fans are immature, I am only speaking of my own experience, and I am sure I am not alone in that.

This, coupled with TAF's and the Atheltic Department's economic expulsion of a newer breed of "crazy" fans (let's face it, it's tough for a new graduate to suck up the over $2K for two tickets [and that's just for endzone seats]), has yielded this result.

Yep, reality is no matter if it is fair or not is LSU's fans don't trust Miles to fix the problems they see on the field. Again, I am not saying it is fair but it is reality. This is the main reason for the "Oh GOD here we go again" reactions.

the husky fans last week were 100% better and our fair weather fans sucked by leaving a close game. The play calling did not help but that is no reason to leave once you are there but if this keeps up, more people will stay home instead of paying money to see close games when they should win easy, which puts our wins at risk.

Knee jerk reaction. Wet game, no rivalry with Vandy

and it will be the same for any other game this year not named auburn or florida...

It was the opening game against a bowl winning team where we were up less than a fricking TD...

I have always downplayed the people bitching about fans but that was completely ridiculous. Our fans are beyond spoiled at this point and it seems if we are not a top 5 team playing other top 5 teams then the game doesnt really matter to them.

I got a taste of it last night sitting in the south endzone. And this is a majore reason why our stadium atmosphere isn't what it used to be. Me and a buddy and my Dad stood up during a big 3rd down, and stayed standing to watch the 4th down punt by vandy, during the punt one of the old ushers or security guys came and made us sit down. I was shocked, we were standing for all of 30 seconds while play was going on and were told to sit. Said to myself, "its a sad day when that happens here." My dad said he's never had anyone say that to him at a game before.

Its pretty sad when we need a curiousity factor to draw people to a game

When a team runs a hurry up offense it makes it very difficult for the fans to generate crowd noise consistently over the course of the game. Tiger Stadium will roar to life when the time is right!

so did 30k+ leave due to the hurry up offense?

I didn’t read all of the other post in the thread so I may be repeating something that someone else already said….I would think that you have to chalk the decline up to LSU’s recent success. I know that sounds crazy but if you look at the “type” of fans that are filling the stadium these days, there are a lot of “Johnny Come Lately” fans that are attending because it’s cool. Ticket prices have driven out some of the faithful that went to the games because they loved LSU football. Unfortunately those fans seem to have been replaced by “not so passionate” fans.

It used to be a football game that had tailgating before....now I think it feels like most fans see it as tailgating with a game afterwards.

I enjoy tailgating and agree it is part of the LSU football experience, but to prove my point, watch how many people are still strolling in at the end of the 1st quarter next week.

I might agree with that. But then that paints our fanbase as fairweather, which is becoming more obvious.

Maybe...and it could be a dislike of Miles that is causing it...

A factor. Rumblings come quickly.

I do believe the high cost of tickets has squeezed out the more diehard fan...

A necessary evil, I think we will have to live with, or embarrass them as being the only fans sitting on their hands.

But I believe Shepard is potentially the most exciting player to ever play LSU Football...he could inject some much needed energy into the fanbase. The curiousity factor will be high with him.

You're probably right, but he will only be here so long. If that's the case, we are only postponing our demise as a fan base.

The downside is if he stimulates the fans, but gets hurt, then Miles will be blamed for using him to run too much.

Perfect example: last night a guy was sitting next to me with his son. The son looked like he would rather have a root canal and the father was explaining simple plays to him. I guess it was his first football game ever (at the age of 16???). They never cheered on any play even though both had some type of LSU gear on. I would hope we could fill the stadium with "real" fans and not impartial observers.

I really think Tiger Stadium is now living on some lore that is no longer there. I have been to Bama, Auburn, Florida in the last couple years, and we are behind them right now for sure

you went to these stadiums for big games. Last night was not a big game. LSU is better than bama and auburn for big games for sure...maybe florida too.
