I think Hamilton would look at it as a step down. He is also going to get the best player in the 2014 class, so he may want to stick around and see what he can do with that group. He would be a great hire because he has a system that can take advantage of physical players who aren't high on finesse. The implementation time would be very quick. But I see no reason for him to leave, especially since I doubt LSU will give him a crazy salary.

I would like to see if Tony Bennett would be available.

This guy used to be on the hot seat about 4 years ago or so. He used to have Alexander Johnson, Von Wafer, etc. and couldn't get to the tournament with them. I'm real impressed that FSU stuck with him, and now he is all of a sudden putting together competitive teams in the ACC.

well, Von was a bit of a headcase at FSU IIRC. and they were right there on the bubble before breaking thru.

and he'd already won at Miami of all places, and had a couple Big EasT COTY awards before he got to FSU. it's not like he just came outta nowhere recently.

heard him on the radio here recently, and Tony Barnhart and Wes Durham were also giving him credit for turning around Oklahoma St right before Eddie Sutton got there. I had no idea he'd been a head coach that long, but it def sounds like Hamilton's a program builder.

anyway, guess it's a bit of a pipe dream. just seemed like it might be plausible, depending on what he felt he could do here/ what kinda commitment LSU made to hoops vs. what FSU does.

I'm opposed to shaq coaching if that's what you're insinuating. As fickle as LSU fans can be, I'd hate to see fans turn on him...

That's one of many reasons why he'll never go into coaching.

On Shaka I'd need to see some a bit more plus, I think he's made a big enough name, deserved or not, that he'd be able to choose from a list that LSU would be way down on. And to get into a bidding war to get ourselves higher on that list would be a bit too risky IMHO given his limited experience.

He is inexperienced. I am not sure what his system is. I am just impressed that they are doing as good as they are after losing Skeen, Rodriguez, Rozzell, etc. They haven't necessarily fattened up on their tourney success from last year.

A great name, but once again...he has a competitive team on the rise in the ACC. UVa has a decent hoops history, implying to me they will pay to keep a good coach around. His style and effectiveness would be GREAT, not necessarily entertaining, but a winning brand nonetheless.

But there is no need for him to come here with what he has going on in Virginia.

Maybe we could get Dick Bennett out of retirement?

I've never seen such a shitty list of coaching suggestions. Usually at this early stage, dumbasses are throwing out Phil Jackson and Coach K. Even our pipe dream coaches suck. Shaq? He has never indicated a desire to coach, and even said recently he doesn't like or watch college basketball.

Pipe dream coaches should be the cream of the crop. I mean, surely someone has seen Jim Boeheim's wife looking for houses in Baton Rouge. This whole controversy at the 'Cuse has him ready to bolt, I've heard.

I'm waiting for the inevitable Butch Pierre suggestion. Even though he is soon to be part of a second consecutive fired staff, I'm sure it's not his fault. He could have recruited all the Louisiana studs we've been missing out on.

No, unless you have suggested Phil Jackson. If so, then yes.

Guaranteed probation? No thanks. I'll take a clean, shitty basketball program.

Now I understand why you continue to take up for Trent cause this is what you got.

go look up bear bryants record and the end of the 60's and early 70's. he lost 6 straight bowl games. he would be fired for that today.

Bear Bryant won a national championship in his fourth year at Alabama and had won three of them by 1965. He never had a losing season. In 1969 and 1970, he had a couple of 6-5 seasons. No way would any coach with three national championships and no losing seasons be fired for losing a few bowl games and having a couple of 6-5 seasons.

we are to impatient with coaches today. period

Who is? Certainly not LSU, which has never fired a football coach with less than two losing seasons or less than four seasons total. Hell, even Curley Hallman got four years before getting the axe. And as for basketball, our last coach had a losing conference record for his career, and still got 10+ years. The current coach has won 7 of his last 39 conference games, and is in no apparent jeopardy of getting fired.

coaching is not just about x and o's. everybody can learn x and o's. 90 percent is about the delivery of communication on the information. sometimes that takes years to learn. that's why some coaches get much better in there later years

Like Dale Brown? Charles McClendon? John Brady? I don't think it's a given that people become better at communicating as they get older (after a certain point, obviously).

Brad Stevens wouldn't come down here. I think Stevens would be a top candidate for the Duke job when Coah K leaves, if they don't hire someone in house. Idk who we could hire at this point. I don't think we will lure coaches like Hamilton, Smart away from their programs because they'd be downgrading. But as someone mentioned, Tony Bennett would be a great Hire IMO

Seems to me that if you're going to replace Trent, the guy you'd go get - and it's going to be BIG-TIME expensive, but probably worth it based on his resume - is Scott Drew.

Did I hear right that Drew had Ricardo Gathers in town for a visit this past weekend?

It would really suck if we held on to Trent after he went 15-16 this year because we think Trent staying is the only way we get Gathers in here, and then Gathers ends up going to Baylor just like Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn did.
