Throwing another forgotten name out there for consideration. A guy I watched catch five td passes in a single game at LSU:
quote:
Carlos Andre Carson[1] (born December 28, 1958) is a former professional American football player drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 1980 NFL Draft. A 5 ft 11 in (1.80 m), 184 lb wide receiver from Louisiana State University, Carson played in 10 NFL seasons from 1980 to 1989. His best year came during the 1983 season when he caught 80 receptions for 1,351 yards and seven touchdowns.[2] During that same season, Carson had the second most receiving yards in the NFL, only behind Philadelphia Eagles receiver Mike Quick with 1,409 yards. Since his days as a Pro Bowl NFL player, Carson franchised two McDonald's locations in Independence, Missouri

Reed was phenomenal
Words fail me in describing his play as a college WR. A converted RB who couldn't have been a surprise after his first few games and I've literally never seen anyone get so open, so consistently. I don't know if he had some move that was just beyond the processing of the DB or mind control, telekinesis, but there were several times in that Bama game (where he and Rohan beat them by themselves), where he was so open that even with the camera panned back some, there was no Bama defender even in frame - as if they had filters on and couldn't see Josh Reed until he caught the ball.
Just never seen anything like it - and much of his season was like that. And 3 or 4 times, the DBs of the other team - during game week - would talk shite about, "Reed isn't going to do that to us" - and then he would do that to them.

Don't forget about this one.
Former LSU receiver Early Doucet turned a short 4th-down catch into a 32-yard touchdown that tied the game with 2:49 to go in the 2007 game against Alabama

I loved that game winner against Tennessee in '06. Looked like the pass was intended for Bowe and Doucet snatched it

Reed
Davis
Clayton
Landry
OBJ
Not mentioned above...
Eddie Kennison deserves an honorable mention.
Ruben Randle *with a little better passing offense could have had an honorable mention.

I'm back and forth between Reed and OBJ as #1. Reed was phenomenal and had the stats, but OBJ was the better talent.
Talent is useless in college without production.
OBJ had great games. Reed won games. He was a one-man wrecking crew like never before or since seen in the SEC.

Landry and Beckham were great WRs. They each could have been the best to ever play at LSU. The unfortunate reality is that (except for 2013) they played at a time where LSU de-emphasized the passing game
I don't think the question was who had the most yards. Just because the passing game was deemphasized doesn't mean they weren't 2 of the top WRs in LSU history. Lafell does not belong in the top 5 the guy had butter fingers for a good stretch of his career.
I think the top 5 would be
Reed
Davis
Landry
OBJ
Clayton
I don't understand how people can think Early or Devery even belong in the conversation. I love those guys, but they don't sniff the top 10 more less top 5.
the next 5 should be
Martin
Kennison
Bowe
Hamilton
Lafell

Davis and Reed should be on everyone's list.
And you lose credibility if you don't have them 1-2, or 2-1.

I would prefer
-Wendell Davis
-Josh Reed
-OBJ
-Eric Martin
-Dwayne Bowe

So, my list, or is that your order?

Hard to do. Have to consider the era football at the time when that player was at LSU.
BRW all good choices.

do you know Mett threw more passes in 2012 than he did in 2013?
on the WR note, Landry and Beckham caught 27 TDs combined over their career with Mett.
Brandon Lafell, playing his formative years with JJ and Lee(matt flynn as a Soph), had 25 career TD catches at LSU. Dude is so underrated.

Josh Reed at LSU is what OBJ was in the NFL last year.
