giving them a standing o to the end the game, was sort of cheesy but understandable I guess. Giving them a victory lap though? Come on, that is over the top and goes well past simply congratulating the other team.
Fair enough but it really isn't as big of a deal as some are making it out to be.

The ones who really wanted someone to throw stuff at them are just mad because others aren't an azzhole like them.
Congratulate and move on. I wanted LSU to go to Omaha but I knew that it wasn't going to be a cake walk.

I just think its phony and reeks of people trying to hard to be known as "the best fans in baseball" Maybe they should have done something for our own distraught players instead of high fiving the guys who just ended the college baseball careers of some Tiger greats likes Gausman and Nola? But I guess that doesn't get those warm fuzzy headlines like giving the other team a victory lap does,
I mean shite we had folks running home to start threads like "tip of the hat to stony brook, y'all were just much better" Who in the frick are you starting this thread for? The 3 stony brook fans out there? Hoping a random SB player reads TD.com and shares this lovely post with his teammates?

I gotta be honest, I don't really care how our fans react. That's all secondary to me with regards to our highly noticeable lack of discipline we have at the plate.

How did "WE" give them a victory lap?
Did "WE" run with them around the stadium?
What was ridiculous was some of our fans getting autographs from the SB players. That's over the top.

all the awesome fans stuff started in the 90s when we'd host a regional and the teams we beat would get some food and hang out with the fans in the parking lot across the street. the opposing teams would really enjoy the experience. that was actually cool. even unc-wilmington taking a lap was cool, but stony brook taking a victory lap getting high fives from our fans after they dominated us is just plain weird.

agreed
even though I thought the Wilmington lap was sort of patronizing

I'd really love to know what the hell this was about too, never seen that many fans trying to get autugraphs from opposing players before

On another note, our talent evaluation leaves something to be desired.
Hopefully that changes with Dunn.
Raph Rhymes can walkon at LSU, but we get guys like Arby, Yocom, etc.
Let someone like Dugas go to Bama.
Hopefully in the future we don't lose guys like Matulis and Zeigler.

I had no problem with it. Yeah- I wanted our boys to win. But baseball has always been different, IMHO than say football. Most fans appreciate a monumental effort like SB put forth last night, and are willing to show them some respect.
These kids were a long way from home. Some of them may get to play in the Majors- but most won't. But I would wager that NONE of them will ever forget the kindness of the best fanbase in college baseball.
I say way to go, those of you who gave them those memories- even though you did so knowing your beloved team lost. Sometimes we need to look at what's really important in this life. They'll never forget what you did for them.

Depends on the age. Kids, no big deal. Adults, weird.

Arby Fields will always be a big WTF moment for LSU baseball I think.

I'm pretty sure that year it was either him or Mahtook were coming to BR not both.....I think we go the better end of the bargain.

I don't think either one of those guys would have made a huge difference this year.

a victory lap by the opposing team in your own stadium is too much.
THIS!!
Hell, even clapping for their victory is stupid.

I'd consider applauding a good play and good performance to be a classy move by opposing fans.
Waiting 30 minutes to physically shake hands with and provide enough people to participate in a victory lap, is well, stupid and makes those participating look like they have no life.
I'm not saying coaches and players, fans, fans that take and extra 30 away from their own family to congratulate opponents. Just MHO. We may agree to disagree.

Regardless of which "side" is right or wrong, to make a generalization that those fans who did participate are motivated by being recognized as the world's greatest baseball fans is nuts. A person does not sit out in the broiling heat & sit thru hrs of rain delays simply to be classified as great fans. They simply enjoy the game of collegiate baseball & show their appreciation by recognizing an above average effort. It has nothing to do whatsoever bout getting a "I am great " t-shirt. Get real. Bitch bout the pros & cons of the victory lap all you want, that is a matter of individual opinion. But,do tell me this: how did it hurt LSU? The players know how much our fans love & support them, so don't tell me they were pissed or upset bout it.

The fans lined up down right field chanting and applauding for Nola and the other guys who are not coming back. Our own distraught players did nothing but hold their heads down and return to the locker room... why didn't they come to the RF line and acknowledge the fans who stayed after the LOSS to support them? I sent the two boys with me to the RF line to let the LSU boys know that even in a loss we wanted to thank them for a great season!!! But they barely waved at the fans and left the field.
We stayed and when the Stony Brook players came around the boys high fived them and told them good luck in Omaha... it's called sportsmanship!

Again.....and I'll tell everyone this. I am glad you got your feel good moment. I'm sure it made it all worth it to you.

Are you that surprised LSU players didn't wanna come talk to you after the most heartbreaking game of their season?
Posted on 6/11/12 at 9:43 am to WilsonPickett
Stony Brook was the better team and deserved to win--this series win was no fluke. As for autos, they had 7 people drafted in the MLB draft--why not get a free auto in case someone hits it big? No problem with that--Our guys played hard, but we didnt hit or make anything go--tough loss, but at least you know it was to a better team. Nola, gausman, Goody, hanover--Tigers forever and good luck in future.
