I was at the game and Tulane Stadium was packed - 60% Greenies. The Greenies whipped our arse 14 -0 with Robiski at RB and we limped to the Orange Bowl. It's true, Tulane used to lead us in popularity in New Orleans. The Saints killed Tulane football, just like the Oilers killed Rice. LSU was always the lead on the West Bank and Metry -- not NO proper until recent decades.

Tulane fans reminiscing about a win over LSU 35 years ago...
Do LSU fans ever reminisce about wins or almost wins decades ago?
Good grief, what does that say for you then ? At least the Tulane/LSU fans are discussing their own team. You come over bursting into tears whining about LSU fans talking about a penalty.
You are every bit as pathetic as any LSU fan you are insinuating is bad.

The Saints killed Tulane football
They were dying years before the Saints. If it was true that the Saints ruined TU football, then TU didn't have true die-hard fans anyway. I find it hard to believe TU had a larger fanbase in NO than LSU, maybe a lot of LSU haters, not TU fans. Maybe LSU killed TU football with the huge win streaks laid on the Weenies by the Tigers that started well before the Saints existed. Oh, and let's not dicount those morons leaving the SEC as a solid reason why their program is next to non-existent these days.

leaving the SEC, tearing down the old stadium, and trying to play in the dome killed tulane football. playing in a small conference without a stadium anywhere near campus killed student support. kind of hard to have a decent football program when your students don't care

all more plausible excuses than "the Saints killed TU football".

The best thing for TU FB would be to build aa 35-45K stadium, on campus--an outdoor stadium.

that quote looks fairly accurate to me.
As s kid, I worked in Tulane stadium selling drinks in the stands. I worked every Tulane and Saints game and lived in the Irish Channel; my entire family followed LSU football and took heat because of it.
I can tell you that the statement is accurate. Tulane fans outnumbered LSU fans 10:1.

No doubt Tulane is light years away from their "big time" football days.
I agree that there is no reason for LSU to play Tulane anymore. I can't believe they signed a 10 year contract.
On a personal note, I was thrilled my daughter got to perform in Tiger Stadium last year.
Football-wise, Tulane should concentrate on being a respectable mid-major.
I agree that a state-of-art on-campus stadium would be the best thing for the program, though I have no idea where they would find the room.
Someone said 45K ... 25K would be more like it.
I find it easy to remain a passionate LSU fan and root for Tulane since my daughter goes there.
The two programs are light years apart these days and not a "rivalry."
Shame on Tulanians who don't recognize that. The majority of Tulane students are from out of state and have never considered LSU a big rivalry.
But come on guys, give those people on the message board a break. They are nostalgic just like many of you older guys are nostalgic for the days YOU went to school in the seventies and eighties.
I don't think it's so much they are delusional to think that Tulane belongs on the same field with LSU today.

That was a huge win for them. I don't blame them for reminiscing. It also says a lot about LSU. Before that win, they hadn't beaten LSU since 1948. There were two ties and some close games,in fact the year before the game ended on LSU's one yard line in a 9-3 Tiger win.
Personally,I enjoy talking about LSU games from the past. Its fun.
Congrats to the Tulane Green Wave on the 1973 win. Good job.

That along with the heavy focus of recruiting students from outside of Louisiana that started in the late 60's, 1970's. New Orleans has also been dying as a city since that time. Back then, New Orleans was a vibrant city with a strong economy.
