Eh, he’s wrong in that they still awarded their own championship throughout the era. But he’s correct that the poll was used in the BSC formula and they did later ask to be removed.

The BCS champion was never factored into the AP and while the fact that the AP was used in the BCS formula is nothing but evidence that the AP was indeed a credible and respected source at the time, no matter how much people want to pretend it wasn't. People just make shite up.

So ur agreeing that the AP didn’t stick to agreement they made then?

No, I’m not. I’m saying the AP made no such agreement, only the Coaches’ Poll did.

Not true. The BCS was created to quell the co-championship issue.

It was created to TRY to quell the issue, but they did not contemplate all scenarios when they set it up. They fixed it afterward by changing the formula to ensure that the #1 team in the polls was included in the title game. If there were no controversy, there would have been no need to change the criteria.

No dick, I know exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t need to search for a link to prove it to you because you’re too lazy to do it yourself. A DOZEN of other posters have said the same thing I said.

Yes, you’ve all made the same inaccurate claim with no evidence to support it. I’m not the one making the claim here. It’s not on me to provide the proof. The AP continued issuing final polls throughout the BCS era and never agreed to automatically give #1 to the BCS winner. The fact that the BCS had to get agreement from the AFCA to make the winner of their game their #1 is an indication that the polls still had meaning. If they didn’t, there would have been no need for such an arrangement.

It wasn’t a BCS crystal, it was the coaches poll trophy and had been given out since the 80’s.

So, it was not the BCS National Championship trophy is what you’re saying?

Correct. It was the coaches trophy whose poll was obligated to vote the BCS championship game winner #1 beginning in 1998, but it had been awarded for years prior to that.

So, LSU is the 2003 National Champion correct? If I understand you correctly, the AP is obligated to declare the BCS National Championship game winner as National Champions.

We know now that the AP was crap. How many times did the favored team lose when 1 and 2 were matched?

2003 AP final poll was a temper tantrum against the BCS, a protest vote.

I have no idea how you could have arrived at that conclusion after reading the post you responded to. I only mentioned the BCS championship game, the coaches poll, and the coaches trophy.

Never happened. AP didn't determine the NC, PERIOD. Why dimwits try to claim this lie is beyond me.
