Actually, it started around 2002/2003. It wasn't funny then. It's not funny now.

It developed here around 10 years ago. People were quoting the line from Animal House - "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" It was meant to point to something that the poster got wrong in kind of a skewed way. It was used often and got old. Eventually, it was shortened to "Germans" and came to mean that "this has already been posted over and over again."

Is it time to replace German with Binder?

Yup, I was on TigerBait years ago and I read that someone had posted something really old and someone else replied something like...

"Newsflash! The Germans just bombed Pearl Harbor!"

Accurate or not, "Germans" simply means "Old News!"

its not a joke. its a new use of a word.

it means that the topic was already discussed, & probably ad nauseum.

a joke would be posting Teutonic instead of Germans.

That didn't originate from tigerdroppings even remotelg. That is internet slang that started on 4chan for the word sources. Like can I have the Sauce (source) on that 10 second clip of porn you just posted. You guys are just old and a lot of the posters on this website are in college and were born in the age of the mystical internet. Now get off our lawn!

I get that it might mean an incorrect statement, but how does that correlate to repeating something that has already been stated?

Let me take a crack at it...

Here, it doesn't mean anything about an incorrect statement at all. It's all about something that was already posted/discussed ad nauseam.

Rough origin:
-somebody posted the 100th thread about an event (e.g. "Les Miles fired")
-another poster responds "Newsflash: the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor"
-then that comment morphed into a diatribe about "the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" (Blutarski/Belushi "Animal House" quote)
-so then people just started responding "News flash Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" to any repetitious thread/post.
-this was then shortened to just "Germans" for any repetitious thread/post

Got it?

By the way, this whole thread is Germans.

ETA: by the way, by morphing the "joke" to just "Germans" (instead of the entire quote) it stopped all the inner-post debates that were sparked by youngsters oblivious to the Animal House quote, that it was the Japs that bombed PH.

the joke never made sense. whats funny about animal house is that bluto has the country wrong. he doesn't repeat something already mentioned. it should be a response to inaccuracies, not something already posted. "we landed on the moon" would be more appropriate.

Yep. Well said. That is a bit more accurate than how I put it.

Anyone ever use "Germans" IRL? I have thought it and realized no one would know what I was talking about.

It's shorthand for a brag. "I'm an innie, you're an outie. I (we) already knew that"

Literally none of that is "inside" jokes. It all stems from threads posted here. Just because you missed the train don't throw shite at the track. Go take your morning shite and calm down.

Oh and you're bitching is Germans.
