He’s been to Omaha once and got his arse beat. He’s taken UT back and they’re a good team now but what has he really done so far?
What's he done, besides whip our arse Five times this year??
- brought UT out of the gutter in his 2nd year.
- UT ranked #11 his 3rd year before the season canceled due to Covid.
- this year, his 4tn year, in Omaha competing for a natty.
He sounds like a Slacker huh?

I'm not upset with Vit or McDonnell. Or Godwin. Or Johnson.

A very mediocre LSU team on his home field. I’d be fine with Godwin if Vitello makes you break the bank.

I looked yesterday.
Year One, I think he finished 29-27 or something like that.
Year two his team went to a regional.
Year three, his team was 15-2 when the season got canceled
Year four his team went to CWS.
He is 42 years old.. In his four years at Tenn he showed progress. Is it a small sample? Yes, but he took a down and out program and energized it.
We can sit here and find faults in every potential hire, but I rather the young ambitious guy than someone on the other end of their career.

What has Vitello done?
quote:
One of Scherzer's coaches at Missouri, Tony Vitello, was tasked with helping to recruit him, and eventually helped him to pitch with more balance and control and to stop leaping at hitters, which frequently caused him to miss up and in to right-handed batters. Ever energetic, in his early baseball career, Scherzer exerted so much effort in his windup that his "head whip" constantly caused his cap to fall off. He did not pitch the final 50 days of his freshman season, instead of working out and doing long toss, while gaining velocity in the process. Vitello and head coach Tim Jamieson trained him in a drill to balance on his back leg with more coordination and not to fall over his front foot. Scherzer modified it and worked constantly over the following winter, and returned his sophomore year to produce a 1.86 earned run average (ERA) and 131 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched over 16 games.[2] In 2005, he won the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Award.[4]

He turned Tennessee around which is impressive, especially in the sec. I agree though, he doesn't have much national success.

Much national success?

I think everyone is skipping over the obvious part that Vits appears to be your run-of-the-mill a-hole, but not in a funny a-hole way. More like in a “that dude who dated your cousin and now tells everybody he is your cousin, and who just yelled your name then dropped an N-bomb at the tailgate” kind of way.

My only concern with Johnson is there isn’t a great track record of west coast guys coming to the SEC
Any Lopez won NC at Pepperdine and Arizona. He made a couple CWS at Florida but sorta fizzled at Florida.
Dave Cerrano made the CWS at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton. No success at Tennessee.

I mean He did just make the CWS
Would you shite on a coach who made an elite 8 at a bad basketball school?

I'm really trying to take it all in stride. But, it's difficult to not get a little excited.
