Asking offensive linemen to sit in their stance for entire play clocks on a regular basis is a recipe for disaster. It also comes across as either our OC, Nuss, or Both are having massive issues trying to get the playcallls in, because we snap late, get confused, and call timeouts like nobodies business.

Campbell is not the problem. His false starts have been ridiculous for sure bur his play is fine. His lack of leadership has been an issue as he had that role put on him but that is another matter entirely

We keep blaming Camp, but has anyone thought that maybe Nuss has a terrible cadence, and Campbell is actually leaving on "time"?

I’m not buying any of this because others aren’t having the same problem. Also, what happens on silent counts?

The entire offensive line is SOFT.... the penalties are a lack of mental focus.

Agree that the tackles are more likely to move early than the center, and that it’s more understandable.
Still, I think Campbell and Jones have both been called for offsides a concerning number of times this season.

I feel we have Sloan and Kelly in his ear too much

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean, but headset communication to the QB has to end with 15 seconds left on the play clock. Nuss often still makes checks after that, tak8 g the clock all the way down to 1 or 2 seconds on most snaps. I find myself yell8ng at the TV to snap the ball quite often. Whether it’s due to coach communication or not, Nuss is trying too hard to get into the right play. I think he’s trying to over-analyze the defense. Often, he checks into the wrong play, or to the wrong side, too. It’s really strange.

I wsnt really defending Campbell more pointing out that Chester is still way worse.

We run down a ton of clock pre snap and I dont know what’s going on.

Nuss doesn’t seem to have a better idea of what’s going on with the coverage

We don’t have a better idea of who is blitzing and what our blocking assignments are

Sometimes I know it’s intentional, but sometimes there is no way it is.

and the longer you ask a Linemen to stand in a stance the more chances you have of presnap penalties happening.

Two voices putting crack in your head 15 seconds from snap is too much. I’m not certain this is happening but Kelly has said that both he and Sloan are wired into Nuss.

Bingeaux!!!
He is hyped up similar to Perkins. Hopefully Harold takes his 1 tackle per game talents elsewhere. Campbell will find the NFL is infinitely harder than the SEC

I actually think you may be correct if this is what’s happening. Yes he is making turnovers but it’s tough to play if he is not getting good coach talk in his ear. Add his personality to that and that’s a recipe for disaster. They almost just need to let him play. He is so mental. He also gets way to fired up and then has a let down later in the games. He needs to just stay more even keeled not to fired up.

Nobody has mentioned Brad Davis, but he has to shoulder some of the blame. He was being touted as the OL guru, but I haven't been impressed. Great recruiter, but average or below average coaching.

I like Jones more than Campbell because he's just nasty!

In three different mock drafts I saw published over the past two weeks, Campbell is projected 6,6, and 4 overall. As bad as you think he is, compared to everybody else, he the most highly coveted left tackle by the NFL right now.

I’ve heard several complaints about cadence but it’s on him at the end of the day. Someone may have even said that his high school QBs used better cadence, but that could be an excuse also. Also, it’s not a foregone conclusion that he won’t be back next year.

Worst thing they have done was bring in that damn ear piece in the QB helmet. It give the coaches too much control. Just go back to the old way. Signal the play in and let it ride.

Campbell is not the problem.

He’s not THE problem, but he’s A problem. Yes, we get the plays in too late, yes, it’s hard for OL to stay in their stances the longer it takes to snap the ball, yes, it’s been much harder on the entire OL since Dellinger went out—harder on Chester and Campbell since they are the ones right next to Mubenga now, etc…

But none of that is an excuse for Will having as many penalties as he has this year. I don’t care about any of that other bullshite, Will has like 7 false starts this year. A 3rd year starter shouldn’t have half of those in an entire season. A 2nd year starter shouldn’t have half of those. A 1st year starter shouldn’t have that many all season.

And Will’s not just any 3rd year starter. He’s a GD All-American who was the highest ranked OT in the country coming into the season and a consensus top 5 player in upcoming draft. And he’s a leader, who was awarded the # 7 LAST YEAR as a true SO. Or supposed to be. I don’t know him, that might not be his authentic personality to be a vocal leader, but he himself pit that target on his back with his—in retrospect, completely embarrassing—comments leading up to the USC game. THERE IS ZERO EXCUSE FOR HIM HAVING 7 frickING FALSE STARTS 10 GAMES INTO THE SEASON.

Some have been absolute drive killers. As have a couple of his holding penalties. And Mubenga being next to him is no excuse, because that’s only been the past 2 1/2 games. He had plenty of penalties with Dellinger—a 4-year starter who is actually our highest rated overall OL this year and who has been right next to Campbell for 90%+ of the plays he’s been on the field in an LSU uniform.

Will’s from my neck of the woods, and I’ve been a big fan since his Jr. season at Neville. I was so proud of him—and excited—when he stepped up and said what he said before the USC game. This team needed leaders to step up and it looked like he was ready to take on that mantle. And he, the OL, and the offensive running game (save for a couple of nice runs by John Emery) laid a complete egg. They were fricking soft, and nothing’s changed. I’m not sure I’ve ever been as disappointed in a player (relative to expectations) as I have been in Will Campbell this season.

Maybe he was just overrated a bit, and that’s not his fault. But the penalties are a lack of focus, the poor run blocking a lack of effort, and that is just unacceptable for a 3rd year starter who willingly tried to step up as a leader on a team that desperately needed one after all they lost last year. No matter what he was rated or how talented he actually may or may not be.

***I’m not suggesting he’s not talented or sucks or anything, but I think he’s been exposed as not the top OL in the draft, for sure. He’ll still be a 1st rounder, obviously.

It’s a different offense with coaching changes and a one dimensional quarterback. Our qb last year helped the line out a lot with his ability to both throw and run equally well. Defensive linemen and linebackers had to play cautiously to try to contain Daniels. They can play with reckless abandon against Nuss and that makes it a lot harder to look like a good offensive lineman.

It’s wild how places still have him as a first rounder. Is this draft class that bad?
