I think it's laughable to assume that Helinihi is a better hitter than Hanover.

After Game 2 of the regional Mainieri took blame for Mitchell being picked off, saying he was distracted and didn't take off the sign.

Go back and watch who was at bat, watch Mainieri when the camera is on him, think about who sat out the next game, think about the missed signs in Hoover -- and it should make sense what distracted Mainieri.

Carl I won't argue any of that with you. You know your stuff and do a tremendous job!

I will say if Helinihi is the heir apparent, Tiger fans need to get ready for some poor AB's against ace pitchers.

there is no reason to think that Helinihi won't switchout with Hanover every once in awhile.

I'm not sure Helenihi has the arm to make the throws the 1st base he needs to.

IDIOT...Helenihi was put in right field when he plays outfield. Right fielders generally need to have a good arm and Helenihi probably has one of the best on the team. Plenty adaquate for 3rd base. I think Derek deserves to get some more starts with the way he has played, especially hitting ball in the clutch, over the past month. He definitely has a lot more power, to all fields, than Hanover.

I think he already has.

Seriously, it isn't all doom and gloom with DH in the game. He is a good defensive player and has shown more recently that his bat as improved.

Against shite pitching...

I hope I'm wrong, but he's gonna look dumb against anybody with a decent breaking ball.

Exactly. You have a guy who is a Senior and has played in the CWS. Helenihi needs to bat in the 7-9 hole when he is in. Hanover will get his chance to shine in the next two series though. I will bet if he forgets signals again, he won't see the field. That crap he pulled with Mitchell on second almost cost us the game. Missing signals is a sure fire way to the pine.

Hanover is a tough, hard-nosed player. I think he may be the type that is really hard on himself. Maybe he needs a chance to decompress.

Exactly. My father and I were watching and noticed the same exact thing. Hanover missed the signal, walked toward the dugout and Mainieri shooed him away as if to say, "get out there and go hit". And you could tell that PM was pretty hot because it was the second time in that game that we had ducks on the pond with 0 or 1 out

You can call me an idiot all you want, but I'm just reporting what I've seen.

It's just my opinion that I think Hanover is a real good fielder and has a much better arm than you're precious Helenihi. Helenihi just doesn't seem to have the accuracy that Hanover has.

I'm a Tiger fan, if Helenihi is in the game I'm gonna cheer for him, if Hanover is in the game I'm gonna cheer for him.

I just can't believe how far some of the people on this board go to support some players. Same thing happened last year when I kept saying Jordan Jefferson should start over Lee.

Plate presents. You know, like "candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two!"

Apparently he's dealing with alot of shite!

Getting back on point (good post, Russian) I certainly wouldn't want to place any money on it. My guess is Hanover, but as noted by a few others, he seems to have pissed off coach and made some freshman-like errors down the stretch. Helenihi made some mistakes as well, but that may have been rust. He is a senior who has been in this situation, so that's a plus.

I just keep getting this mental picture of having Helenihi at 3rd, we're up 2-1, they've got a man at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. The balls hit right at Helenihi and he throws the ball into the dugout costing us some runs on what should have been a routine play.

Defense wins Championships, and I have confidence in Hanover's Arm.

I disagree with this. Helenihi's defense is at least on par with Hanover.

However, Helenihi is still easy to pitch to, IMO. Helenihi seems clueless against RHPs who throw breaking balls out of the zone. And, he has always had trouble laying off the high fastball.

I like Hanover in the game because he does a better job of forcing the pitcher to give him something to hit.

I've changed my mind. After looking over the stat sheet for last weekend, I think he starts Helenihi. He played pretty well in the field and had several hits. With the pitching that both teams have, the games this weekend will be tight and it may very well come down to which team makes the fewest mistakes. This is pure speculation, but based on what we saw this weekend, I think that coach Mainieri may have more confidence in his senior in this situation.
