Griffith Park where the original Washington Senators played now has a Howard University hospital built on the land. They have a plaque shaped like home plate in the floor of a hallway at the exact location of the Griffith park home plate. Pretty obscure landmark especially for DC but cool.

I agree. A "home plate memorial" would have been nice, with a plaque defining that spot surrounded by oak trees. But Baton Rouge has never cared about its history. It's a sterile city with continued inconsiderate "leadership." If Baton Rouge owned the Eiffel Tower, they would sell it for scrap iron. If owning the Roman Colosseum, they would sell the stone and build a parking garage.

This wouldn’t be hard to do. There are 3 grass islands in the current parking lot. Home plate was located in the larger one.
I think there should be a plaque for the pitching mound and all of the bases.
Maybe one of you big donor guys can make the request to the Athletic Department.

The old Colt 45 stadium in Houston. It is now a Fingers furniture store , but they have a small room with the original home plate and batters box in it. Along with some 45 memorabilia. It's pretty cool. The 45er,s changed the name to Astros

The old box is commemorated by the bleachers behind the left field fence being the same bleachers that were in that spot at the old box. Probably the best example of them going cheap on the new box.

FYI, I sent several emails years ago to athletic department and after several round arounds was told that they had no control over that property, that I would need to work with the LSU property department. Had no luck contacting them. I think we should contact owner of Matherne's since they have the parking lot that would be where home plate would be. Maybe someone has contacts with them? I did get an email from Skip himself saying he's tried to have this done with no luck too.
A nice brass home plate set in it's original spot would be a huge tourist and fan spot. Cost to Matherne's would be one parking spot.

A fitting memorial would include the real Alex Box story and tie that in to Alex Box Stadium.
A lot of people aren’t aware of the historical significance of Alex Box and LSU as it pertains to the defense of our country.
