The game has changed. It's about playing into your second contract now. If he goes round 3 and plays like a first rounder he made the right choice. He has a year in the NFL getting paid as opposed to a year in college to develop before the 2019 season.

I would have loved to see him play another year at LSU but to say he made the wrong decision is a premature statement at best.

Reports(Mike Mayock) are that Key looked exceptional in position drills despite the bad 40.

He’s likely one of those guys who was leaving after 3 years no matter what. A lot of guys leave early and go undrafted.

4.85 is disappointing but when has he ever showed straight line speed?

You just need to be quick rather than fast rushing the QB

You can say whatever you want, but the guy isn't a first round pick with that time. How far he fall is going to be interesting to watch. That time/speed combo is very bad.

If his performance remains inconsistent, another year and he may be worth $$$.

To answer the op’s question, Key couldn’t come back to school. He had already caused enough issues to where most were looking forward to him leaving. (Partly because depth wasn’t going to be as big an issue this year) additionally, he’s so caught up in himself I don’t think he could have maintained academic eligibility. Not being in school, and on campus last summer really hurt him athletically and academically. Sadly he had/has the talent but doesn’t appear to have the commitment to excel at the next level. That said, I hope he proves me wrong and lands a huge second contract... even if he gets a huge rookie contract from getting drafted early.

He ran 4.85 at 238 pounds as a speed end rusher. That’s about as glaring of a red flag as you’ll find.

Lawrence Taylor ran a 4.6 with hand held stop watches. Not that big of a difference. Plus, speed rushers do a 4 yard dash...not 40.

Lol whether he gets $1 million or a $10 million dollar contract. That’s still more money than any of his haters will ever touch in their life.

Who are you to say he has a “ghetto upbringing? “

His gf is a basketball player for Texas A&M. She definitely never had a baby. You sound like a hater but Key will make more money than you will probably ever touch

Ive heard and read multiple people say he looked phenomenal in individual drills. Yeah he had a really shitty 40. If I’m just looking at numbers that time he posted sticks out like yau Ming in the middle of rural China. But I’ve also heard football people say his three come drill was elite and he looked great in the pass rushing drills.
However, i think after the season he just posted, he could have seriously benefitted from coming back. One can only reminisce now and say what if

Dumb, lazy and impatient. Can’t wait to hear what the reason was for time off. Should have come back, committed to his game and show turnaround. IMO....

Why? To risk further injury? He had shoulder and hand injuries.

If he goes in the 3rd round he still gets a contract worth on average $3.3 million. He’ll get paid to get hurt now. With the new rookie wage scale, ALL the value is with the 2nd contract.
