With the academic support available I'm sure he can do it if he wants; just a matter if of following through.
And let's not pretend he's taking calculus and physics. His classes are almost certainly the easiest on campus. Simple stuff. Just show a slight amount of discipline and it should be a breeze.

You have a fair point. I would just offer from my own experience that the amount of maturing that can happen in a year at that age is incredible. Perhaps the journey he went on after leaving LSU has made him grow up. Perhaps not. Hope to see the kid dress out this fall if it helps the team but think we are just fine without him...especially if he doesn't develop into an asset in the locker room.

Because his mom brought him home mid-semester after his issues and he essentially pulled out of school?
He likely got a fat incomplete in most of his classes. I don't think people suggested he sucked at school while he was actually in Baton Rouge. He just left town.

If he has mental health issues, college football is not the place to get sorted out.
So people with mental health issues shouldn't be allowed to play college football??? What an ignorant statement.

He quit in the middle of the season.
He missed 2 games.

But I repeat. LSU was a better offensive unit without him
The change at QB probably didn't have anything to do with that, right? Neither did the fact that one of those games was against a defense that was even worse than ours.

Id laugh in that kid’s face if he demanded even a stick of Big Red from me to return. If anything the team should make demands to him. One being first and foremost you need to tell your teammates your sorry for quitting on them when things got tough. Next I’d make him agree that he is a TE, not WR, and that from time to time he would be required to block. Lastly I’d demand he takes his schooling seriously enough to stay eligible until he leaves early for the draft, let’s not kid ourselves and think he graduates or is even interested in doing so. Along with taking his schooling seriously I’d demand he gets regular professional help for whatever personal demons he has going on. If he doesn’t agree to any of these things then you’re wasting your time anyway trying to bring him back.

But surely you can acknowledge that if a player has anxiety or another serious mental issue that could be exacerbated by the high stress and pressure of playing major college football, that could be bad for the player.

Look at his behavior, Les. He bounced from one school to the next. Why did he leave during the season? Is he academically ineligible? Is he enrolled ANYWHERE? If not he is not likely to play this fall, but what do I know?
Something is wrong with the lad. I hope he gets any help he may need. Maybe he cannot handle CFB and the "course work" these players are supposed to carry. How would you put it, Les?
Oh and how about my question about qbs? You never answered.

Nice non sequitur, Les.

There was a post on here a couple of weeks ago saying that Gilbert was back in Baton Rouge and working on Ed O's plan to try to get himself back eligible for the 2021 season.

He was the best offensive prospect in the entire country,
No he wasn't. He was RATED the best. That’s very different. He was in the same class as Max Johnson and Boutte; would you trade either for Arik? Neither would I. That’s two guys who are clearly better offensive prospects, and that’s just on one team.

Lester, Is it your point that only white folk believe in accountability? I think you are selling short a lot of black folks.

I hope he never comes back.. good riddance

See the thing about TE Arik Gilbert our beloved folks who makes the football decisions for LSU would love to have him back. So it really doesn't matter what any of you think about it if he wants back in and works to make that happen then he will be a part of the team.
