some was unwarranted, but a lot was. last yr he actually wasn't that bad in the playcalling dept IMO. just had a QB that was wildly erratic on easy stuff. not sure if it was his call to keep that QB in the game.
he was never good at QB development though.

A couple of calls against UK in 2007 with the game on the line.

2nd and 5, Crowton puts RICHARD MURPHY in at QB for some wildcat bullshite and we lost a yard. End up in 3rd and 6. Hence the Lee pass play on 3rd down that ended up being the pick to seal the game
This should be mentioned as well. Man he really fricked up the playcalling in OT.

and I wonder why..now that we have dumbass Jefferson out from under center I bet we do a whole lot better
did you find it characteristic of crowton to not play to the strengths of his offense?
i thought this was evident on multiple occasions.

I hope he fricking tears it up at Maryland. This guy got so much flack and I believe most of it was unwarranted.
You believe wrong.
He will probably tear it up at Maryland this year though, but our offense will be much better as well.
When we played Washing, my brother and I flew into Portland to see Oregon & OSU before heading to Seattle. We drove from Portland south, spent a day there, and then drove up. All the Oregon people told us his offense would fall off every year from year to year until he left. Coming off a national championship we dismissed it.

They are all bad. The Penn St. one is the worst. When they did that I couldn't believe it. And then the PSU guy wouldn't get up and an LSU player yanks him up, gets a 15 yard penaly, and there goes the game.
The one against Alabama in 08 at least was a successful pass earlier in the game. But it was dumb to call a pass to the endzone on third down in OT when facing a 40 yard FG. A short pass would have been better.
What is worse about the Ole Miss game is that they had almost sacked Jefferson with the same blitz package on the play before. And he did it again anyway.

Very characteristic!
But we all know it was Miles' overruling of Crowton's plays...
I dont think we'll ever know what Gary had in stored for LSU becuase he was never given the reigns to do what he wanted, he was always having to bend and conform his offense to what Coach Miles wanted it to be and they were opposite. Les wants a pro style, B10 power running style offense and Gary wanted a spread em out style offense with some option built in...they didn't mesh at all, top it all off with the incompetence of JJ and the 2008 version of General Lee and the sum of our parts was some bad bad offenses

quote:For the record, the mass substitution was a HORRIBLE call, particularly with the clock running down.
D. 2010 vs. Tennessee. Lee leads a great, potential game winning drive down the field. With 30 seconds left inside the 5 yard line - Crowton calls for a massive substitution, changing WRs, QBs, and TEs besides just leaving the same players in. Mass confusion leads to a blown play, thank god T-Bob Hebert snapped the ball.
However, Jefferson was substituted on the play before the mass substitution, and that was a good call.

bingo! and thats why when crowton gets all the hate it bothers me a little because we didn't see what he envisioned bringing to LSU, we saw some funky mix of power and spread football that just didn't work

IF that's the case then why did LSU's offense go down the same road as BYU and Oregon under Crowton?

All of the above are worthy. But the Ole Miss call takes first, with Alabama close 2nd.

I'll agree with that. It was a bad fit that only got worse. But I still feel Crowton deserves alot of the flack he gets for 1) not developing our QB's and 2) trying to get too "cute" with his play calls.

I would agree with you, but as an Oregon fan he had the exact same issues at Oregon. Started off good, got worse, called inexplicably plays in odd situations, had an uncanny ability to find plays that worked and went away from them by running time after time plays that got stuffed.

I never saw his Oregon stats but he had all the talent in the world to make his spread offense work here at LSU but he was never given the freedom to. Now, I'm not taking all the blame off of him because that'd be ridiculous becaue as the OC he definitely deserves some of the blame, but I think in his case he doesn't deserve ALL of it

2009 Ole Miss
LSU scores to make it 25-23 and for the 2 point conversion does a jump ball in the corner of the end zone to Tolliver (I think). It's incomplete, but there's a flag. LSU gets one more shot AND RUNS THE EXACT SAME JUMP BALL PLAY. Incomplete.

I concur with this!
One thing though: How much developing could one do with JJ...
