They have an impressive history and seem to be easy to buy & sell.

Thoughts?

It would be a very small part of my investments, but the liquidity, especially od American Eagles, is impressive.

Plus, they're still touring, so there's that.

Eh; while I agree with this statement in principle when compared to the long term average market return, Gold has definitely got windows of opportunity.

Unfortunately; now is likely not it. The time to buy gold is when nobody is talking about it and the economy is cooking.

If you were buying in 18-19’ you were getting gold at $1,200-1,300 an ounce. A tidy 250% return in 6 years if sold it today. I can’t come up with many other investment options that would have done the same.

To the OP, gold can be a fun way to diversify your portfolio; but, it should never be your primary investment vehicle.

There is numismatic gold and bullion type gold. If you are serious about gold, then bullion is the only way to go. AGE’s, Maples, Brittanias, Krugs or Mexican options are viable. AGE’s, Buffs and Saints are the easiest to sell. Fractional gold will eat you alive in premiums. Stick with the 1oz variety.

Scammers are numerous and the buyer should always beware when dealing with individuals, pawn shops, or E-Bay.

You better know your stuff if you're going to buy real gold off the street. The fakes are very close except usually one measurement is off. Most likely some are indistinguishable even to the most trained eye.

Thanks for the post

Yes, it would be a very tiny portion of my portfolio. And AGEs do well over time.

Kind of what got me interested...

Uncirculated Eagles seem to rise in value at a good %, and each run is limited.

Again, it wouldn't be a primary investment, but certainly something that's easily liquidated.

And it would strictly be in ounce quantities. The poster that pointed that out is spot-on.

Uncirculated AGEs (BU) are a great way to go. Place them in protective 32mm capsules, and later on you can send the best 1 or 2 of the lot out for grading (NGC or PCGS) to improve the value. I have done this with Buffalos , which I prefer , due to AU content and esthetics.

Pretty much all I ever buy is US-minted stuff … it is universally trusted from a metals perspective.

Apmex, SDBullion, BGASC are good online suppliers. Costco also has fair deals, but limited selection and quantity.

My thought is that you should have purchased 4 years ago, but better late than never because gold is a wonderful safeguard against inflation and we will be experiencing much more of it.

Yes, in March of 2020 was a superb time to buy …. for a brief period. Spot prices nose dived with most everything else. That lasted about 10 days …. spot prices remained lower, but physical inventories dried up …. all of the dealers were out of inventories.

You could buy pre-‘64 90% silver for 11 times face $11:1). Those same coins today sell for 25 times face ($25.50:$1)

IMHO, the outlook for gold is optimistic …. I predict the bull will resume by July …. With gold in a sideways channel until it resumes …… gold to $5k by 2026
