Would not touch it.

I think all these people would be shocked they are already decently invested in PFE through their S&P500 Index funds

Agree. Check your exposure via other funds before jumping in.
To the downvoter re my GSK comment, do me a favor and look at the cash position for each company. It’s not remotely close, and unless GSK gets a mega blockbuster, they’ll never be able to buy their way out of their issues. Their ViiV income will be dropping in a few years due to patent expiration and has no long term prospects, and while the vaccines group provides an annuity, it’s facing increased competition and a public that is now more averse to vaccines after the Covid bs.

If you're looking to buy a drug stock, maybe look beyond humans and take a look at Zoetis (ZTS). World's largest producer of medicine and vaccines for pets and livestock. I started buying it earlier this year. Still well off its historical high.
Return for the last 12 months vs. people drugs:
ZTS +55.04%
LLY +33.77%
MRK -3.72&
PFE -45.21%
MRNA -52.34%

Funny Zoetis is a spinoff from Pfizer, but obviously more narrowly focused and seems to be well run. This seems to be more of a growth stock, that has outperformed the S&P500 over the last 4 years.
I tend to stay away from biotech companies myself do the extreme volatility, but PFE presented such a value play due to the extreme negative sentiment due to the COVID business. I do not find it comparable to ZTS here.
ZTS could be a very valuable investment but it does seem to be valued more in line with other biotechs at its current price.

Assuming Dems will redirect COVID to justify mail in voting again especially since Biden is taking in the polls so I expect there will be a big demand for the COVID vaccine or booster in 2024
