Career Decision

Guys, how much do you value a company's stock price into a career decision? I was offered a sales role on Friday and trying to make a choice by Monday. Major company. 25+ Billion a year. All around much better role than what I have, the benefits alone made my choice an easy one.
But there's one thing. 50% stock decrease in the last 5 years. With the current economy, that scares the shite out of me. I was laid off during covid and spent 5 months job searching. That was an uneasy feeling that I would prefer avoiding again.
So what's your opinion?

Interesting thread. AT&T?

I'd be more interested in the actual details of the company than their stock price. Read their latest financial statements. What was the last quarterly guidance? What are analysts saying? Can you tell if it's a sinking ship or just riding on the crazy waves of Fed rate moves? Any pending litigation? etc. etc.

Is this a stepping stone or are you looking for a long term nest? May help just to name the company.
I remember when offshore drillers thought they couldn't fail. Most went to 0.

If people based their decision on this alone. The unemployment rate would double.

I think it matters a lot. Even if the company is doing well financially, a poor stock price can put significant pressures on the business. And a poor stock price can mean a number of very bad things as well
This has been something I look at with potential jobs

This is the right answer BUT so long as you are working for someone else these risks will be with you. Very few people spend a career at one company. There are a lot of reasons for that. it is sad to me to see 50 year olds looking for work after 20 years with a big company that decided to re-organize.
I have found being in business for myself has been less risky than the first 15 years of my career working for somebody else. I spent years in starting this business near bankruptcy but never a day was the decision to keep going anybody’s but mine. It has been very good for me and my heirs the last 15 years.

What does the rest of the picture tell you? Is their revenue still growing?
