They still rank near the bottom, but, as far as I can tell and speaking from personal experience owning several of their products, it depends on which vehicle/trim you’re buying.

Stay away from anything 4xe and don’t get a loaded model with air suspension and all the screens and other luxuries. My GC is altitude trim and it comes standard with heated seats, heater steering wheel, 8.4” screen w/ CarPlay, radar cruise, rear parking sensors, blind spot detection, cross path detection, auto emergency braking, rear camera.

Honestly, outside of an upgraded stereo, not sure what more you could want. If you bump up to Limited trim you can add a bigger screen, front park sensors, garage door opener, cooled front seats, Alpine stereo, and a panoramic sunroof. Limited is the sweet spot, but I bought when they had no stock so I got what I got…but with 1.9%. I upgraded the stereo and added garage door sunvisor myself for probably less than the factory would have charged for those options.

I always see Jeep and Chrysler ranked near the bottom of reliability

Is that not a problem anymore?

Cant comment on Jeep per se but the 3.6L pentastar engine is as good as it gets. I have had it in two Chryslers (T&C and Pacifica).

The 6spd transmission in the T&C was bulletproof with mild maintenance (fluid drain/fill every 50k miles). We put 180k+ miles on a T&C and it never left us stranded and ran like brand new when we got rid of it.

Our 2020 Sienna was 35K out the door. 60 K miles and going from 2011 mid range model to 2020 with almost all of the bells and whistles has made it a very nice upgrade. We looked at a 21 or 22 model except the changed to a 4 cylinder hybrid which is under powered from the reviews for a car that can haul 8. Also, they shrunk it down in the process to eke out an extra mpg.

Considering you are driving a 2013, even a 2020, it would likely be a significant improvement. My wife fought the minivan image before we got our first one and then realized it is the best vehicle for our needs.

I still drive an 06 F150 but it was nice to be able to lay out cash for the new vehicle and still have money in the bank for the upcoming new roof and inevitable HVAC replacement and that is possible because of some earlier choices to sacrifice a few luxuries at past crossroads.

You seem conflicted as you ask on the money board, but your heart and your wife are pushing for the latest and greatest features. You have to decide what is most important to you and choose, but the two are at odds.

On the other hand if we buy a new SUV for my wife, she wants to keep a third row and the rates are currently around 7%

I’ve seen a ton of interest rate deals. Way lower than 7%.
For example. CPO MDX. Includes extended warranty 7 year or 100k miles. 1.29% for 36 months, 3.99 for 48, or 4.99% for 60. Three rows. True transmission. Not a CVT. Reliable.

fix your pathfinder and make a plan to buy another vehicle in a year or 2.

You will at least recoup some of the repair costs when you sell the car plus gives you time to research and figure out what you want. The car is worth more repaired. This option will save you money, the longer you drive it post repair , the more money you will not have to spend on another newer car that will cost much more to operate, especially if you finance it. The car market could get better in the next year or 2, the rates will definately get better.

the dude asked about his car, not politics. What kind of man are you that allows another old man to live rent free in his head 24/7. Grow up clown

You're right, they shouldn't be intertwined. Unfortunately......

KBB says a 2013 Pathfinder SV with 136k miles in excellent condition is worth $4k on trade. OP says it will cost $4k to fix it. This is bad advice.

its not worth $4000 until its repaired. The cost of insurance on a $45-50K vehicle vs. this one that's worth less than $5k on paper should be considered. If you spend $4k to fix it, you can drive it for a year or 2 then sell it and at least get some of your money back plus the savings of the insurance and finace charge on purchasing 45-50k vehicle that can be delayed..

or..

dont fix it, no telling trade value of a vehicle valued at $4k that needs at least that in repairs & go buy a $45-50k vehicle, pay much more insurance, + note and finance charge..There is no wrong answer here without knowing more details as everybody's needs vs. what they are willing to pay to make headaches go away are different...

And the repair is at least $4,000. It’s essentially totaled. If it were something like a Tahoe or 4Runner, or some reliable sought after SUV I’d say maybe. But a Pathfinder with the CVT? No way.

I owned a Pathfinder for its entire life cycle, and put 170000 miles on it.

I ran like a top for the first 6 years, then a major engine breakdown set me back 2 grand. It worked well for a couple more years, then everything at once started breaking. I spent the same as you in a 6 month period, Then another issue came up and I bought a new car.

Get a new car. If it was a one off issue I would say pay the $2200 but since a pattern of breakdowns has happened thats a red flag.
