What is it about hidding behind the anonymity of a message board that makes people want to be an a-hole? It must be a self confidence, self image issue. Did you steal lunch money or have your lunch money stolen as a kid Pierre? Either way, I bet it was'nt that long ago.

Nice work...seems like too many rantards never say anything of substance...they just want to lurk and pounce on other posters to up their post count. Their world must be pretty small.

not really sure what the hell is going on...I went from 8500 an acre to over $20,000 per in the same time period....desoto parish....

Spankum,
Where are you located? It seems that the shale is thicker towards logansport according to Comstock Resources. I think that we will start to see more interest there.

sorry man, don't think I want to get into that much detail here until I get check in hand....

I'm in Webster & agreed to 4250/acre. I was told this was the edge of shale and this was the tail-end of leases for the area. Did I make the right call? I'll tell you in 3 years since there's no 2-year renewal option on my lease. I made the best call based on the available information at the time and only time will tell.
HK & CHK need to get busy developing the play now! Get those drills going!

Dog,
What is up with PH and CHK stock, why the drop?

1) Overall market drop & economy sucks
2) NYMEX (Crude Oil and Nat Gas) Big drops in past few days
3) CHK issuing stock to raise capital for drilling....indication that they still need extra funds outside Plains Partners to handle the drilling costs and infrastructure costs in the Haynesville and Marcellus plays....
don't think it has anything to do with diminished value of the Haynesville itself.

Which conventional wisdom would tell you benefits CHK, a big hedger with a lot of it's gas prices already locked in.
Posted on 7/17/08 at 9:30 am to TigerDog83
CHK is a big hedger, and the NYMEX will continue to be volatile in this environment....may be a short-term correction with a big bounce later....
but, it's obvious that the continued economic news, indications of slowing energy demand, political pressure from all sides to mitigate high energy prices, etc. .....all have a negative tone on the market......difficult to see how the U.S. can sustain its economy on $145/bbl oil.....Nat Gas, to some extent, will have its upward limits challenged by big drops in Crude Oil...just the way the technical markets work....
absent a huge swing toward CNG vehicle production and increased gas-fired power plants, which I support, I see limitations on Nat Gas moving much about $13/MMBtu.....although, Europe and China are paying $15-18 equivalent prices to feed their demand????....
on the CHK hedge note, I agree that CHK is ahead of the curve, but bottom line, they don't hedge anywhere near 100% of their gas, so every MCF unhedged is negatively impacted....futures gains are not real "dollars in the pocket"....they are simply a hedge/guarantee against a price drop on the equivalent volume of gas hedged......they give up that equivalent value in the cash market......
-and- it diminishes their ability to lock-in (at that moment in time)additional "long positions" at the high-price level on future production......
Bottom line, it's not a "WIN" for CHK anymore than any other company.....just less of a loser.

Wow, didn't mean to bum everybody out with that post!!!
I think I set a record for the Haynesville Shale post by having the longest unanswered post (roughly 36 hours)......amazing considering 44 pages of total HS postings!!
Smile, the O&G companies still have lots of incentives to drill on a $9.00 - $10.00 NG price deck.....most budgets were set at an $7.50 - $8.50 price deck for 2008 (Midcontinent to NLA basis-adjusted). Now, if the cost of drilling services would come down a bit, too!!

Not upping my postings here, I just speak up when there might be something relevant.
Have you looked at the link posted by bazeball about 3 pages back? I've seen 2 other letters like this for S. Caddo & S. Bossier. Yeah, there's increased interest.

CHK price is near where it was on May 1, 2008 $52-54. Before HS heated up. Things to think about .Similiar production cost may be close to $ 2.00 a thousand cubic feet. Gas prices are $ 10.00 or so. CHK is paying near $27,000/acre in the Barnett Shale zone. HS may have 3-6 times more gas per acre. Chesapeake (CHK) is paying much less than for HS acres. One could speculate that a fair market price would be Much, Much higher. Therefore the bargin prices should greatly benefit the company and their stockholders. Barnett Shales best wells produce 10 million cubic ft per day. Haynesville is 17 and thats under choke. CHK intends to put about 8 wells per section.(Do the Math!) Chesapeakes CEO bought 750,000shares july 16, @ $57 per share.

I've heard from 2 different sources that HK has been slow to pay their lease agreements lately. Also heard that one person who is owed $11 million is filing suit for either his money or cancel the lease agreement. Has anyone heard of Petrohawk having cash flow problems?
I have assumed as a shareholder they might have to have another stock offering to raise money for this play, but haven't anticipated cash flow to be so severe that they couldn't pay their bills.
Maybe it's all rumor, but the two sources are pretty reliable. Just wondering if anyone else has heard or experienced something along these lines.

We got our check BUT for wrong amt. because of a clerical error in draft. Our leasing agent made clerical errors on several drafts same day ours was written (stored info in WORD & kept repeating it on draft). I wasn't getting anywhere with leasing co. who is no longer with PK, so called PK. They were great & got our ck to us within 5 days. There is a local PK ofc. in Shreveport that handles payments for this area.

If it was my choice I want CHK drilling my wells. I don't think HK has near the knowledge of this formation as do CHK and to a lessor extent Encana. Some people are not considering the fact that Chesapeake has drilled almost 20 wells already and are two plus years into the learning curve with Encana not too far behind. In contrast HK just completed their first well.

Dog, you always seem knowledgabe regarding this play. What @ smaller companies in the play like Cubic Energy, Gulf Coast Energy, Mainland Resources? Any others you can recommend? Don't you think they will eventually be absorbed by the big guys & at same time their numbers will go higher?
Posted on 7/20/08 at 10:35 am to animallover
Well Mainland just joined up with HK. Cubic is almost surely going to get bought by CHK I would think, especially since CHK owns acreage in all their units. I don't know anything about the Gulf Coast operation.
