Yep, that was what I wrote.

There are two large companies I know of whose valuation makes absolutely no sense: Tesla, and Herbalife.

Ole HLF. Lol. I tried shorting it. No bueno

dabigfella posted the below quote a little less than a year ago on 4/29/17.
This is the 36th consecutive year XOM has increased its dividend.
You sure do know how to predict a company's future dividend policy!
quote:Hey, Einstein, Exxon's Board of Directors just voted to INCREASE XOM's dividend by 7%, or $.20/share.
What happens when Exxon cuts its dividend in a year or two if earnings don't ramp up? They're paying way more than they take in and it's not sustainable

You don't think he lurks this board from time to time?
Posted on 4/25/18 at 1:36 pm to LSURussian
He's not exactly the lurking type, ya know? He'd comment if he ever looked at this board... unless he's banned (again?)

I just can't stand Tesla pumpers. They are just like their God emperor, Musk. Sky high predictions about oil and sustainable energy with nothing credible to support it with.

Wutang, you ever get a junk email?

TSLA may be the next Apple Computer but right now it's still very speculative, just like I said several times in this thread.
I just looked at their updated financial statements and their current earnings per share is (minus) -$11.83/share and their Free Cash Flow is a negative $1.44 BILLION.
They are still losing money on every car they sell.

I'm just wondering when the books catch up to the price. any kind of slight downturn and this stock is on major trouble. musk isn't focused on his core product enough for me

Agreed. And the cars aren’t cheap. The company is a total joke. They should license the technology to someone who actually knows how to manufacture automobiles. Gotta figure they’d be better off that way. Oh wait... they threw their patents* in the trash. I forgot.
Tesla is just a cult.

The cars themselves are actually pretty awesome. It's an absolute disaster of a company though

I personally don't see any way for big auto to compete at this current point in time with the overhang of dealer networks in place, too much invested in ICE assets, and lack of a gigafactory to ever produce more than a handful of BEV's but with market penetration of .01% to this point but with none of the constraints of unions or ice assets weighing it down, it seems like tesla has a huge leg up over all the incumbents.
I disagree with nearly every premise in that statement.
To begin, as long as sales stay geographically concentrated they can get along without a dealer re: repair network, when Granny Jones has a problem in Pachuta Ms things are going to be a bit different and the more of them rolling around leads to more service issues
As far as the gigafactory goes, producing more has certiqnly not been one of its charachteristics, in fact the inverse is true
We will just have to see when it comes to unions, Musk is pretty far left and may open the door for them, he certianly will not be seen as opposing them

Short Term ie 18 months I'll say $500-700 and longer term like a decade, I think its one of the largest companies on earth worth $1t+
My short term guess is 200 ish due to severe liquidity issues, long term has more to due with fuel prices and regulation than anything the company itself will do, I'm not even taking a guess at that one but that is no way to run a railroad

Anyone see the interview with Jim Chanos this morning after the announcement of the VP of autopilot leaving?
He's been short Tesla for 4 years, but they have a list single space two pages of the executives that have left in the last 18 months.
Said the only other time he has seen an executive departure list that long was Valeant and Enron.
