just saw this interview/grill session on CNBC with Kevin O'Leary regarding the FTX scandal, and i lost a lot of respect for him. i always thought he was a numbers only/no BS kinda guy who didn't give a damn about your emotions, but he came off looking weak and dumb

before you ask, no, I never viewed him as an infallible godly figure who was mistake-free, but i thought he was someone who was a lot more real and knowledgeable about his investments and didn't sugarcoat things

He took 15 million dollars to push this scam on his followers. Only thing I can take away from his interviews is that he was bought and is holding some heavy bags in worthless crypto

He lost 9 of the 15 million he was paid to push this scam onto people. Poor guy… only netted 6 mil.

I applaud him for the transparency and honesty.

With that said, I don’t even think he lost anything. $15M in payments to him and he invested like $10M or so back in? Maybe taxes net him out at a wash.

It's important to note he didn't put up his own 15M. FTX promised him compensation in the form of cash/coins/equity to be a spokesman. So he is only out the taxes on that money. Still a lot of coin, but not the same as fronting your own 15M.

The interviewers are grilling him on due diligence, but how much due diligence would you do on a product if you're getting 15M in comp regardless? Probably not that much. Doesn't make it right, but it's not exactly surprising.

He even admits he did not do enough due diligence, that he looks like a total idiot, that it was a terrible mistake, and his goal is to parse through the data so he can get to the bottom of what happened.

He actually didn't come off as cocky as I would've expected.

Think about this for a second.

Maybe at some point he was, but in the last few years Kevin has been all about selling Kevin. And this is a huge hit on that ability.

Same guy who was telling laid off people during the pandemic to go and work for free for somebody to get re-established.
Never liked the guy

The most amazing part of the interviews he’s given is that he said that given the opportunity, he’d back Bankman-Fried again. Idiot? Crook? Trying to make it look like his original “due diligence” methodology is still what he’d use?

Kevin is a clown. Made his money selling a bag of garbage to Mattel.
