I’m not really a premium buyer, but what strike and expiration do you have?
Posted on 8/1/23 at 4:59 pm to Jag_Warrior
I’ve got 10 $55 9/15 puts at an average of 1.26 and 2 $55 12/15 puts at an average of 1.95. The 9/15 set is obviously up more but the 12/15 set is safer, I believe.

SBUX looks flat after earnings, should be great for your calls and puts. AMD up a few points too

Looks like you had a good entry price on the puts, a strike that’s close to the current price and you’ve got a decent amount of time value - especially on the December expiration. Hopefully BUD falls enough in price after earnings to make up for the likely drop in IV post earnings. By the options table, looks like the expected move is +/- $3.92 going into earnings.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I think we’re both looking good here.
SBUX usually doesn’t rocket or crater after earnings. I thought about doing a strangle, but this would be the one time when it might take off on me. Plus the naked calls in a strangle tend to eat up a lot of buying power on $100+ stocks.

I just haven't been able to find the guts to sell the low delta calls yet. I know it's equally as profitable mathematically but I just can't do it

Another beautiful morning for BUD, up over 50% on the trade so far. Thinking I’m getting a little greedy but I intended to hold through earnings when I bought. Second guessing myself now after 3 straight red days, I’m expecting a miraculous recovery tomorrow despite huge misses on earnings

Well well well, we may have to sweat AMD after all. What a reverse move
I actually sold some more for AMD next week since volatility is so high still. I'm at a point now where I do not mind assignment, especially for this name. Getting assigned might actually be better, especially if IV stays high so then we can sell way OTM calls against.

I got assigned a couple of times on AMD over the last year. But I was able to work my way out by selling calls against my long positions. It did take awhile, but as a trade or investment, I agree that it’s not a bad name to get assigned on. My “sinking like a rock” PYPL situation, on the other hand =

Your puts are almost in the money now.
I’ve kinda got the other side of your trade. I’ve got short puts on BUD at the 47 strike/6 delta expiring 8/4. Here’s the sweet thing about options: opposite directional trades and we can both still make money.

Annnnd back up we go.
As earnings plays, I’m looking at AMZN and SQ for today. Launched some 0DTE SPVs on SPX a few minutes ago. Nice to see a decent pick up in the VIX to give better premiums. Finally back above 16.

Yep, AMD going to easily expire worthless after all. With you on VIX. I bought 50 delta VXX puts yesterday a month out. The futures contracts work in your favor with that one.

Forgive my novice options trading vocab, but what does the above actually mean? I am just learning about the greeks. Does this mean you bought 50 puts of VXX with a low or high delta? (meaning you think the underlying continues to drop in price)
Also appreciate the suggestions on ANET,AMD and FSLY

Looks like that one is heading toward the outfield fence!
I like your AMZN setup even better than mine. But I couldn’t get my short put orders on AMZN (115 strike) or SQ (64 strike) to execute at my prices. So ended up putting on a large 8/4 SPV on SPX instead.

I got a pretty bad fill to be honest, .57 or so. Had 115/92 spread to be technical. I like to buy a put back at a penny because it helps me to define risk clearly and it makes margin a moot point for me. In any event, easy >2% ROI
Posted on 8/3/23 at 3:24 pm to LSUTIGERS74
Nope, I bought 3 VXX puts. Delta measures how much the option is mathematically expected to move. A delta of 50 for VXX means that for every dollar VXX moves, the option would be expected to move 50 cents.
One nice feature about delta is it is roughly the percent chance that option will expire in the money.

Once I’m done with full time employment next week, options on futures will likely be the next frontier for me. I follow the S&P in the evenings and before the open now, but can’t devote any more time to trading until I’m finally over & done with the office.
Was the VXX trade from the Trade Machine?
Posted on 8/4/23 at 11:44 am to Jag_Warrior
It was moreso an idea confirmed from Trade Machine. The basic premise is to buy month out puts on VXX anytime it closes above 7% on a single day.

On the 91/79 BABA put spread for 8/11. Earnings play. .57 credit
