A 3 percent tax on companies doing business in Canada. And its 3 percent of REVENUE meaning it could easily be 15-20 percent of profit. F Canada.

I'm in finance for a very large corporation. Their auditors HOUND you for information to make sure they are getting what they think they should.

Several countries in the EU and India are others.

Plus it's retroactive from 2022. It'll be billions.

quote:

The first payments from Canada’s digital services tax, which was enacted last year and applies retroactively to 2022, are set to be collected Monday. The tax would hit both domestic and foreign tech companies, including U.S. giants such as Amazon
, Google
and Meta
.

Canadian officials said this month that they would not pause the digital services tax, despite ferocious opposition from the United States.

Maryland tried to do something very similar a few years ago

Retroactive tax seems illegal

Canada is a parasite. If you talk to their citizens they are also the most smug people you can imagine.

I agree. I never understood the whole “Canadians are the friendliest people on earth.” I’ve known more than a few and most are very smug. Even the ones I consider friends are normal, not especially nice. Where did this stereotype come from?

It is "politest". And they are polite. It's just that along with that politeness can be a shocking level of passive aggression.

Maybe wrong board, but I don’t understand this type of hate for Canada.

I don’t let others decide who I like or hate, Canada hasn’t done anything negative to me.

I enjoyed my time there.

Alright, I’ll let you get back to your hatred. Enjoy !

It’s more of a major political issue than anything you as a tourist would experience. Canadian politics are very left leaning and invasive compared to American politics recently
