Switzer, Johnson, Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi, it didn’t matter. No one was beating that team.

Why is 2011 Bama even in the discussion? They lost.

How many chances does Bama get to play 1995 Nebraska?

Are both games situations that help Bama? First game at home, second game at a neutral site? Does Nebraska have to play an extra game on the road against a top 5 team to qualify for the second game against Bama?

All of these factors are important to know before I determine my answer.

No. Not with an I-based option. I'd wager they were more likely to be shut out than score 30 against a modern team.

1995 Nebraska

Is mythologized in the South because they destroyed an SEC champ in Florida that owned the SEC when it was weak in the 90s. You had TWO teams from the SEC finish in the Top 20 AP Poll in 1995.

Big 8 had 4 teams in the top 20.

1995 Nebraska lowest margin of victory was against Washington State (14 points) which finished 2-6 in the PAC10.

Nebraska also played University of Pacific that finished 3-8 in the Big West and was their last season of football...ever. They quit because they sucked so bad. Arizona (who finished 6-5 in the PAC10) beat Pacific by the same score Nebraska did.

This was an era of poll points and running up the score against dogshit and Osbourne was the most shameless about it. Whipping Florida was no big feat.

That bama D might not allow 95 huskers across the 50. I mean if you can’t pass Saban is going to mail you.

They would win similar to how they won the national title in 11 except a bigger gap.

Even in '95', the Cornhusker's DBs were porous. But these spread passing teams today in the HUNH would pass that team silly.
Their 4 DBs averaged 6 years in the nfl

That Nebraska team would’ve rushed for 500 yards on 2011 Alabama.

Georgia Southern rushed for 300 with that triple option.

Is that the same BAMA defense LSU had 92 total yards on in the NC game? And didn't LSU and Jefferson come out running the option?

That's about how long they were at Nebraska. Osborne redshirted everyone. Part of the cornhusker's special sauce.

As a long-time Husker fan and one who had the fortune of having season tickets during our glory era, there have been some great teams, especially in the SEC in these subsequent decades.

That said, if there were a time machine where NU’s 90s teams could play in the modern era, I’d still be just fine with our chances against anyone.

The players on those teams held each other accountable, expected to win and on the rare occasions they got punched in the mouth first, would only get more motivated and punch back harder.

We’ve been thoroughly humbled in all these years since and most of us simply now would love to see NU have some winning seasons again but I’m glad I got to live through that era. Have never seen anything like it before or since. It was great.

Are you comparing Jordan Jefferson to Tommie Frazier? Lol. Also LSU’s option game was pretty bare bones, basically they had one option play mixed in with their pro scheme. Nebraska ran the option scheme with some pro style I stuff sprinkled in. Two completely different animals. 95 Huskers would have stomped a mud hole in that 2011 Tide team.

Would NOT have mattered? No defensive team built before the 40-second clock would stand a chance against the elite HUNH spread offenses. If you don't have the personnel to run with and tackle in space and can execute at the speed of light, the caliber of the athlete wouldn't matter. If you try to throw a base 4-3 defense at these speed passing teams today it would be suicidal. No one stops elite spread passing and running teams by the way. Defenses just try to get more stops than their opponent.

That's what coach Saban meant when he said some time ago, "Is this what you want college football to be?" Romanticize all you like about the good old days, I enjoy it myself, but offense beats defense in this era of HUNH spread football. Thems the rules.

I'm comparing the talent that LSU put on the field in New Orleans to anything Nebraska has ever seen, much less ever had. You are only fooling yourself if you think today's athlete wouldn't moonwalk on that 3-star Nebraska team.

Breaking news: an old man with lingering injuries doesn’t perform at same level as his younger self did.

I’m in my 40s and can’t keep up with my 17 year old son while doing yard work now.

is it because some amazing human evolution in the 25 years between our births?
or is because i’m in my fricking 40s and in last 4 years have had: ankle surgery, shoulder surgery, diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition, etc.
