Well there it is. Sucks for Yuki because he’s performed really well besides that outburst swerve he took at Danny.
Liam seems to be pretty feisty too but maybe not that dumb.
Should be interesting depending on how tough their car is next year. Either one of them is better than Perez this year though.
Still think they should have signed Sainz and let Max go to Mercedes if that’s what he wants to do or is threatening to do.

Yuki definitely deserved the seat but I can understand why RB went with Liam, who I think will be a great secondary to Max. As someone mentioned earlier, Yuki is a little unhinged and he could ruin quite a few races for Max out of spite and he wouldn’t give 0 fricks
Also good luck to Checo. Him holding off Ham in Abu Dhabi is still one of the most badass things I’ve seen in F1. That shot of him holding off Ham while Max is approaching far off in the background is an iconic shot. Looked like something out of Days of Thunder

Yeah, that was a full on non-answer. He should be in politics

I hope Carlos finds his way back to the front at some point. He really got the shite end of the stick.

If tweet fails to load, click here. One of the reasons I like Lawson. Not a pay driver, doesn’t have big money backing or daddy’s money. Reminds me of ocon, races with a chip on his shoulder.

I just found out today Denny Hamlin’s parents basically did the same thing to help him make it. I hate Denny Hamlin but gained some respect today for him. Makes a lot of sense with the chip on the shoulder he has. I expect Liam will be the same way once he gets more comfortable. He’s going to be tough to race against.

I think I remember reading somewhere that a bunch of people in New Zealand had pooled their money to support Liam and now that he has made it they will get a percentage of any winnings he might earn. I’m not sure if that applies to his salary or not.

I definitely think Lawson has a higher ceiling than Yuki. But based on the races last year and this year, so far, Yuki has out performed him. I think Yuki should have been given a shot. And just like Gasly and Albon, when he didnt work out, scrap him and bring in Lawson.
This is my position as well. I am a fan of both Yuki and Liam. Liam did great in his one year in DTM and his one year in Super Formula. In the second-to-last Super Formula event I saw Liam throw away his chances at the title with a mistake that was part rookie over-enthusiasm and part lack of familiarity with the track. He made some rookie mistakes this year but that was expected. Most people believe his ceiling could be pretty high. He entered F1 at a higher level than Yuki when he entered F1.
Reading lots of reddit comments, I wanted to comment on two themes:
1. Liam's similar Sunday race pace to Yuki. No, Yuki does not have Tier-1 Max or Lando race pace, no one ever rated him that high. Liam impresses because he's competitive despite his lack of F1 experience. But what I find funny is that Liam supporters play up race pace and ignore the fact that Yuki beat Liam 6-0 in GP qualifying and scored twice as many points 8-4. Liam's similar race pace to Yuki is exactly why qualifying performance is so important, and here's my example: At Brazil they both put in a brilliiant qualifying performance thanks to the team's decision to keep the tire warmers on at the end of the red flag period and target just one hot lap, instead of getting in line at the pit lane exit to guarantee two hot laps. Yuki was P3 and Liam was P5. They both drove great races in the wet (but fell down the order slightly more than expected because of Alpine's brilliant (or lucky) decision to keep both drivers out just before the red flag). Yuki finished P7 for 6 pts and Liam finished P9 for 2 pts. That four-point difference was the difference in their head-to-head totals. That's why qualifying performance is so important, especially when the drivers are similar on Sunday. Yes, Liam may ultimately have a higher ceiling, but racing is about results; we all have this innate sense of fairness, and Yuki clearly out-performed Liam in their head-to-head matchup, not to mention he beat the other two teammates he had in the last two years.
2. Both detractors and fans of Liam are concerned that it's too early, Liam will get eaten up by Max and end up like Gasly and Albon. Everyone knows that Liam is getting promoted a bit early and will make at least a few more mistakes than a Red Bull driver should make, especially with the fierce competition expected from McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes. But I think he'll do fine, everyone expects rookie mistakes, and he'll probably do better than Perez anyway. And Lawson won't pull a Colapinto and get crashy from the pressure. Plus with the controversy of promoting him over a more experienced teammate who also out-performed him, Red Bull will be extra supportive (like they supported Perez) and nurture him as much as they can so they won't look stupid promoting Lawson over Tsunoda. He will have room to grow. Same goes with Antonelli. Mercedes will be supportive of their rookie thrown into the deep end so early. But Lawson is a known quantity -- for all we know, Antonelli could end up like Colapinto and buckle under the pressure.

Big shake up for next season. Only 2 teams return both their drivers from 2024.
Cool to see some new faces and old drivers on new teams.

Bottas stays at Sauber
Checo, Danny Ric, Zhou are all out
ETA: This is all after Danny Ric gets promoted for second half of 2024 and Lawson goes to RB, then Danny Ric doesn’t perform.
Predictions from July - Missed on Bottas and Red Bull gave Checo more leash than expected, but nailed the rest.

There are so many baby faced rookies for next year. Going to be so interesting to see how they all play together.
