It does matter because that actually gives Indiana the advantage. Talent was way more concentrated back then.
Indiana would lose to 2019 lsu, Clemson, and Ohio state.
Not their fault, it was a different game

Mendoza couldn’t even hold Burrows jock strap……and that’s just ONE position.

Idc what the apples say, 2019 LSU would be favored by 12
Posted on 1/9/26 at 8:21 pm to Boodis Man
If they beat Miami. Definitely top three, if not number one.
Scoring 42 points per game, even through the playoffs
Allowing 10.5 per game
Schedules are definitely comparable.

Indiana’s defense might be a smidge better but LSU offense was world’s better.
2019 LSU would beat them 45-17
Indiana wouldn’t have been a Top 3 defense LSU faced in 2019.

These people are comparing a (still hypothetical) victory over a Miami team that two games against unranked teams to 2019 Clemson

It would be a decent game. LSU would have too much star power. Burrow was a cyborg. This IU defense is nice but they’re not locking down Chase, JJ, Marshall, Clyde, Moss for 4 quarters. And the defense really showed up those last 4 games. Texas A&M and Oklahoma looked like D2 schools. UGA looked like a CUSA school and Clemson was done by the 3rd quarter.
LSU 38
IU 20
(And yes, covid champs bama probably beat IU as well)

Not only does IU have the better defense, but consider the coaching match up:
Cig-natty vs O
LOL. Total coaching mismatch.
Burrow and Mendoza is a push

It also was way easier to hoard talent and tip the scales then too and be dominant
Yeah, no shite. That’s why it’s silly to even attempt to compare these teams. They were playing a different game.

95 Nebraska > 19 LSU > 01 Miami > 25 Indiana
Posted on 1/9/26 at 8:28 pm to lsupride87
If you look at when lsu played them 7 top 10 teams.

The coaching advantage and Mendoza being better than Burrow would give IU the advantage.
