So the LHSAA convention is coming up… big things in baseball are on the agenda…

Baseball

III-1 Changes last day to add new baseball games to prevent power rating manipulation
III-2 Changes when new schedule dates come into effect from 2028 to 2027
III-3 Makes possible changes of day of the week for the LBCA convention
III-4 Eliminates sport specific evaluation/tryout period (see II-9)
III-5 Changes pitch count and required rest rules
III-6 Changes playoffs to a double elimination format and eliminates the split
III-7 Changes select division playoffs from 20 to 24 teams
III-8 Makes teams who have played less than 15 games ineligible for the playoffs
III-9 Changes power rating formula in regards to teams that play up

I think 6 and 7 are kind of iffy… there aren’t enough good teams in select brackets to add more to the state playoffs… and you know most schools in the state really don’t want to touch the split in any way

Then they want to change the playoffs from 5 weekends to 3 with double elimination tournaments… I don’t think most teams have enough pitching to survive five games in a weekend in the lower classifications… and less communities will get to see postseason baseball

It’s probably a stupid question, but who gets to make these decisions? Is it administrators or athletic department people who know what they’re talking about?

Glad they are getting lights but they need a new coach as well.

The new Admin is very invested in building their entire athletic program to be fully self-sufficient and are not afraid to make hard choices. They've already brought in new coaches in other sports and the President is a baseball guy. I wouldn't be surprised if there were changes as early as next year.

They are a crapshoot this year. Too many guys that sat behind the 78 seniors they had last year so they will either grow up quick or fall flat. They have enough talent to surprise someone on an off day and might even repeat as District Champs, even with Brusly in-district. Will make the playoff, likely with a first-round bye, and might even make it to the quarters. Don't see them making it past that.

They better do it quick because once St. George gets its own school district; St. Michael is going to take a big hit. It will be similar to Redemptorist when Central got its own school district.

principals cast the vote. Some get input from coaches and ADs and some just do what they want or what school boards tell them to do.

ST Michael's get a large number of kids from outside of st george unlike what RHS was like.

St George will have more of a positive effect on St Michael. It won’t hurt enrollment.

The team is so young. Basketball will hurt them to as they wait for one of their best players.

And their schedule will do them no favors. It is very difficult.

And every school gets one vote so districts that haven’t consolidated have an unfair advantage

West Monroe,

Braydn Cupit, an LSU commit at pitcher, can bring the heat at 90 mph plus.

Ran into a buzz saw last year with eventual state champ Sam Houston in the playoffs.

Several returners from last season, Peyton Starr, Brady Guillot, Davis Long, Sheppard Brown, Ryder Dejean

JJ27 will have a better idea but WM looks to be a strong contender again this year.

I'm not sure on the lineup, but Cupit is pretty tough to hit. Sits 93, touches 95 from the left side with a wipeout slider. Series vs 1 game will make WM rely on some others on the bump. I know they have guys that win, I just don't know about their dominance. I've heard Guillot has looked good so far and you have Carr/Long returning that ate up a lot of innings last year.

Their best overall player is a 28' catcher from Ascension Parish. What would have been their best 27' player transferred out... back to Ascension Parish...26' is not even worth mentioning, no talent left, There is rumor of a really good 29' kid, also from outside of EBR.

Once Tookie is gone the team will be more competitive with the support they seem to now be getting from the new administration.

CCA travels to Barbe Feb 27/28(DH) for a 3 game series. Also at Catholic High on Feb 20. CCA should have another very good team this year.

that will be a good series with Barbe, will go watch if I can but i think I will be out of town that weekend.

2D sports has the Marucci 1st Pitch Classic in Lake Charles March 5-7th that will be a really really good tournament with the following schools.

(1)Austin Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
(2)Barbe High School (Lake Charles, LA)
(3)Grapevine High School (Grapevine, TX)
(4)Kingwood High School (Kingwood, TX)
(5)Lutheran South Academy (Houston, TX)
(6)Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School (Beaumont, TX)
(7)Sam Houston High School (Lake Charles, LA)
(8)Sapulpa High School (Sapulpa, OK)
(9)St. John Neumann Catholic High School (Naples, FL)
(10)St. Thomas More (Lafayette, LA)
(11)Sulphur High School (Sulphur, LA)
(12)True North Classical Academy (Miami, FL)

Barbe will be in the same pool as Lutheran south. Sam Houston will be in a Pool with Austin Westlake.

There will be exhibition games starting at 1pm for the 6 of the out of town schools and then the tournament starts at 4pm.

I assume it will be games at 4/6/8 at Barbe, SHHS, Spar. Looks like the out of town teams will play the exhibition then each team will play 1 pool play game friday, 1 on saturday and be seaded into 1 of the three 4 team brackets based off that to start bracket play saturday and sunday.

should be a great tournament

if anyone knows of other tournaments...post them please.

He is cleared to swing the bat and can toss up to 30 feet. I don’t think he will be cleared to pitch this year. He signed with UNO so no need to risk it.

One of my former players is a freshman. Sits 85-87, was in their rotation last year as an 8th grader .
Played SS as well
