I’d rather the clash be on a local short track that nascar could build up. It’s an exhibition after all.

However, if they opted to kill it, I’d be fine too.

We need this in Louisiana. Has to be someone who can build a track just for this.
Next to the levee by Tiger Stadium. Plenty of parking. Use the levee for stands.

Wed forecast

I would love to see them put it on FS1 on Super Bowl Sun, think they would draw many disgruntled SB fans.

At this rate it might be canx as I doubt they move it any more days

The Dale Earnhardt Archive
@ArchivesDe
Dale Earnhardt Cuttin’ It Up in The Snow!!

Since everyone in the South East is snow bound today I thought I’d share a Dale Earnhardt snow story with you:

On Saturday March 1st, 1980, the inaugural Late Model Sportsman race at North Carolina Speedway (aka Rockingham) was cancelled and the Carolina 500 Cup race, scheduled for the next day, was postponed until the next Sunday because of a winter snowstorm that threatened to bring more than 5 inches of the fluffy white stuff down on the speedway.

Teams, drivers, and fans alike were left scrambling to find a way home. Most decided to stay the night and go home the next day after the storm passed through, while others tried to leave, but most of those had to turn back and hunker down for the next 24 hours to wait it out.

About an hour after NASCAR’s announcement Dale Earnhardt was "cuttin' up in the snow," as he put it, in a Pontiac Firebird that he was driving sideways down the side roads from the Sheraton to the Holiday Inn with unlikely passenger Ed Hinton who was a young NASCAR journalist on the circuit.

"You get a little more traction than this on a dirt track," Earnhardt told Hinton as they entered the Holiday Inn parking lot about as sideways as you could get without losing the rearend. "And if there's too much snow, like they say there's gonna be later tonight, it's butt-bustin' conditions.

But now this (about an inch of snow and sleet) is just about ideal for cuttin' up,” Earnhardt continued to tell Hinton as he maneuvered the car on the edge of control.

"You can slide the rear around like this (which he demonstrated), or you can stop quick like this (almost like stopping on a dry road). So, it's safer than it looks, if you know what you’re doing.”

Earnhardt then spotted one of the PR people, who was an accomplished go-kart racer, and challenged him to a race.

A makeshift racetrack was set up in the lot around a parked hauler or two and 'round and 'round the track the two would-be snow track racers went.

"We won't hit anything," Earnhardt promised Hinton. "Hittin' stuff is bad news when you're cuttin' up in the snow. Now we may hit this wall right here," he said as they came within inches from one, "but that won't hurt nothin"."

After a few laps and a couple of 360-degree spins nose to nose they decided to race back to the Sheraton. According to Hinton the cars never got over 40 mph during their 1-mile race back to the hotel.

As they were getting close to the hotel, Earnhardt was sitting second and had a plan going into the last corner, "If I can touch him just right, I can spin him right around," Earnhardt told Hinton while looking all around him for bystander traffic.

Earnhardt moved closer to the Monte Carlo and kissed its rear bumper, but he was a touch too early and the Monte Carlo wasn’t as sideways as he wanted it in order to send its backend around.

"Missed," Earnhardt said to Hinton. "He beat me this time."

After they got back to the Sheraton the cars were parked and as Hinton surveyed the cars, he noted that both cars didn’t have a single dent or scratch on them and that cuttin’ it up in the snow was fun – especially if you were in the car with Earnhardt driving.

Charlie Glotzbach hit 243 testing the famous winged hemi cars prior to the '69 season. An engineer rode with him sitting on the floor, no seat, no restraint.

Q: Will the cars be running the new short track package tonight with the possibility of rain?

A: Yes will have 750hp tonight. And do have wet weather tires. Forecast has improved in the sense there should be longer windows of no precipitation
