Basketball and baseball staying split too?
Posted on 6/8/16 at 12:45 pm to YeahYeah
Everything is split. LHSAA just approved their own death, and 56% still think they saved it.

The problem is Curtis and Evangel/Calvary. Interestingly enough, putting Curtis where they belong, the Catholic League, seems to be working. Sure, they are still good, but they are not obscenely dominating other lesser schools.
but sending them down was done by 4a nd 5a - which pissed off and disenfranchised many in 1a, 2a and later 3a.. to get us where we are now...
also the last two JC teams were not as good as previous years..... that changes this year.

Well Scotlandville needs to start building a bigger trophy case for basketball then. No select school is going to beat them

RIP Sulphur softball fields.
Don't they make bank off of travel ball tournaments?

I can't wait until the privates create their own association, and then get in a bidding war for officials.
Currently, if I am not mistaken, LHSOA officials would only be able to call LHSAA games. Therefore you would have to create a new official association to call the private league. If this is the case you get the following:
It is a Friday night in October and the official who is a member of the LHSOA and the new officials association has the option to:
Go to a public school and call a game for $75
Go to a private school and call a game for $90
If official can only be a part of one association or the other, they will choose the one that pays best... Then the LHSOA, LHSAA, and principals will have to vote to pay more so they have enough officials. The cycle continues...
This doesn't even take into account the scheduling concerns.

they think they've saved their version of the LHSAA. they think the smaller the town, the more "pure" HS athletics is. they thrive off the sympathy they get for getting blown out by private schools and the media perception that they're just good ol' boys doing the best they could, never meaning no harm...
you tell them the private schools have a superior product, they'll bristle at the thought of high school athletics being called a "product"

one would not be able to officiate in both groups...

how would they enforce that? (without getting into labor laws)
to make that ruling means you are putting conditions on their employment as refs, making them employees and not independent contractors
do they stop HS refs from working travel ball, college ball, etc.? if not then how could they stop them from working with the "other" association

The LHSAA has only controlled their own officials for a few years now. Before that, it was all independent referee/umpire associations, and each district generally was responsible for their own contract.
I get why the N. LA public schools voted for this... they really won't face too many issues. But the South LA public schools, which will readily compete with privates on these issues, are about to get hammered, and they don't even realize it.

Would it even matter? Go with the better pay every day of the week.

Not sure, but if I'm not mistaken, Sulphur said they can't even accommodate the amount of games with so many titles.

And guess who gets to deal with that cluster? I can't wait to watch the melting faces.

The one school, one vote disparity has been the ticking time bomb that will finally break the LHSAA. Good riddance at this juncture, as hopefully the destruction will lead to an eventual organization that puts the kids first.

It is pitiful that public school principals can't get over what happened with John Curtis and Evangel in the past. That is long gone but no, dumbasses have to hold on to their hurt feelings. I wonder why the public school educational system sucks so much in this state.

I can't help but see shades of Hamilton vs Jefferson in the direction they wanted their versions of America to go.
