Also, kind of crazy that this was Alcaraz’ first SF appearance at the Australian.
Same. Was pretty surprised when they mentioned that earlier.

The Spanitards historically don’t play as well on the Aussie hard court

What a great match to watch. Hope the old man can do it once more. Alcaraz was cramping in his last match so who knows.

Then you realize that he's only 22.
2026 - In the Finals
2025 - QF loss to Djokovic
2024 - QF loss to Zverev
2023 - missed with injury
2022 - start of his breakout year. 3rd round loss to Berrettini.
2021 - AO debut as World #141 after making it through qualifying. 2nd round loss to Mikael Ymer.
To be fair he was 17.

I can’t imagine Carlos will be anywhere near as big a favorite as Sinner was today. Was a massive upset.
Carlos -288 (-4.5 spread)
Djoker +250

I see it being Alcaraz in 5 or Novak in 4 for Sunday. Can’t wait!!!

I know it sounds crazy, but I think Novak will be the favorite. I don't mean on paper, but just between the two players. Carlos will be up for it, but if Novaks forehand continues like it did against Sinner then look out!

I honestly wonder how long it will take for someone to beat both of them on their way to winning a Slam.
I knew I should have clarified this by saying "unless it's Djokovic in this tournament."
I'm guessing he's already won a Slam beating both of them along the way, too.

It is crazy how much more "gettable" Alcaraz is than Sinner according to Oddsmakers. Not just in this example, but in general.

I don't believe anyone has beaten both in the same slam

But yeah Sinner seems to be held in higher regard than Alcaraz yet I think Alcaraz will be the one tGOAT crown is passed to when Djoker retires and gets more majors than Sinner. both have that extra level no one else does but Alcaraz just has a will that I don’t see in anyone else

That line was also a bit inflated by Nole looking so bad against Musetti and getting bailed out.
Alcaraz has a few more WTF matches than Sinner does, but is waaaaay better in 5 setters, which is huge in grand slams.

I like Alcaraz. His drop shots play well against the Joker and he can stretch the court better than Sinner

quote:yeah true Alcaraz record in the extended matches at the majors is definitely advantage him. 15-1 in 5 sets now. I’d bet on him to get the first calendar grand slam in many decades. If not this year within the next few

Sinner now has the same number of 5 set losses as Novak does in his entire career, which is an insane stat.

This is a crazy stat

Sinner's issues in long matches continued, as he fell to 0-9 in his career in matches that last more than 3 hours, 50 minutes.

Yes, especially in a sport where the epic matches all tend to be 4+ hours in the last 15-20 years.

Hilarious some of the shite posts about how easy Novak was going to get beat, father time, yada yada
I thought the Olympic Gold was the chef's kiss. If he takes out Sinner and then Alcaraz on his way to winning #25 holy shite
