re: Best young hitter in baseball....

Out of those 3 options, for a series right now
Votto is the best, most consistent hitter
Heyward has the best potential to take over a series if he gets hot
Gonzalez is the best all around player out of the group (can play all 3 OF positions pretty good, steals bases, and since the second half last season he has been on fire)
So right now I would take Votto as a hitter, Gonzalez if we are counting defense, and Heyward in the long run.

Actually when he started this thread, it had no message...then he edited it and put those 3 guys in there
I edited twice. Once within a minute because I accidentally posted a blank message so immediately edited and added those 3 names. So if you saw that original edit, you saw the time signature was the same.
Then the second edit (3 minutes later) was to exclude mauer, and whomever else you guys would try to slide in there.
ETA. So everyone who came after 1:54pm saw the guidelines

Potentially, yes, he could be the best young hitter. Though so far, he's had some trouble adjusting to the majors.

Who doesn't? He's going to be an amazing talent for the Rangers.

he is their new everyday 1B right?
Posted on 5/3/10 at 8:46 pm to Adam4848
I'm not saying he won't be great. Statistically speaking, 33% of college first baseman drafted in the first round make it to the HOF. Smoak has HOF potential, he just takes time to adjust every time he is promoted (happened at AAA too).

Yes. I'm anxious to see what his output will be in late July/August.

Nobody has said the right answer yet: Justin Upton.

He's going to be great. True 5 tool player.
Posted on 5/3/10 at 8:57 pm to Bench McElroy
That's because he wasn't a choice
Posted on 5/3/10 at 9:05 pm to KBeezy
Everybody else is listing other players. Out of the three choices given by the OP, Joey Votto is clearly the best hitter right now.

Smoak's in that 2nd or 3rd tier....not 1st.
jay Bruce too
jay Bruce too

IMO jay needs to really work on some fundamental things because he is turning into Adam dunn way to early in his career

What?!? A top 10 prospect that is projected to be a future .300/30/100 hitter with lots of walks isn't second tier. He isn't amazing right this second, but there's no doubt he's a first tier hitter.
