the Red Sox are probably better off not resigning Bregman to that amount and with his decling power numbers…but not after pissing and trading Devers.

Once they made the Devers move it was committing to Bregman, this is worse case scenario. They basically lost Devers (a fan favorite and still solid player who can easily move to DH/1B eventually) for like 4 months of Alex Bregman

$35MIL AAV for a 32 year old 3B'man

It's the shallowest position in the league. If you're gonna pay top dollar for a position, this is the one to do it. He's been a top 3-4 third baseman his entire career and he still has a top 20 WAR among all hitters when healthy.

You could get a bullpen piece from a playoff-ready team like NYY, DET, CLE, KC, SEA who all are looking for INF help

So you want to trade Nico now! Who is out there that is the missing piece in our bullpen that you want to trade a 4 WAR player for projected to be a 4-5 war player this year????

IMHO our only need is a fourth outfielder and bench bat. Tell me what reliever you think would bring more value than Nico on a one year rental.

It needs a RHP that can blow hitters away late in games. Not these guys that throw 92mph.

Palenceia throws 100 and Hunter Harvey who they just picked up throws gas too and they just paid $6 milion for him. Maton who they just picked had a 33% strikeout rate last year, why does it matter how hard he throws.

Most of the best relievers are off the market and you think some team is going to trade their lock down closer for one year of Nico Hoerner?

IMHO a fourth outfielder who can hit - say someone like Tauchman is the move not trading a 4 WAR guy for some imaginary reliever who you hope some team will trade straight up for a one year rental.

[/quote - Bregman played 145 games are more 2022-24. Had a quad issue last season - still played 114 games. Don't see that as a concern.

What an absolute waste of money. To put it into perspective…Max Muncy is making $10 mil in 2026

Wait until you find out Bregman is better in every aspect of the game.

He has the same problem Corey Seager has. When he's healthy, he's worth that price, but he could go down at any time for any length of time.

Huh? Bregman is always healthy

I’m in the minority but id like to see them extend Nico now and move him to ss in 2027 and get off the Swanson contract after this coming season.

You can extend Nico without and still keep Swanson. There are several Cub players whose contract ends this year - Taillon, Kelly, Happ, Seiya, Nico and I may be missing someone.

They are absolutely not going to re-sign all of them or even most of them. I have no issue with extending Nico. He's younger than all of them and has a higher projected WAR than all of them.

Yeah, not sure where this flawed narrative is coming from. He had a quad injury last year at the end of May and missed 43 games Outside of that injuries have absolutely not been a signifcant issue.

Tucker is a talent but he's going to want a 10-year deal and I can almost guarantee he won't age well. He was flat out not good defensively in RF for the Cubs and I was not at all a fan of the way it went with the injuries last year and how he handled his part of those.

The Cubs do project Bregman to age well - now whether he will or not remains to be seen but intangibles like presence in the clubhouse and defense will definitely be an upgrade.

uhh yes, that is what a good franchise would do if they aren't going to re-sign the guy, which just became way more unlikely with Bregman's contract.

Matt Shaw was worth 3.1 bWAR with 33% less plate appearances than Hoerner. You can't play both every day, so if you deal Hoerner and plug in Shaw, you aren't losing much.

yes, plenty of teams would trade for Nico Hoerner. One that is confident they could re-sign him could even give up more. Teams will dump nice players for a rental even for half of a season at the trade deadline.

Teams like Seattle and Cleveland have a ton of pitching and a void at 2B. The Yankees, who have been rumored to want him in the past, are always going for it.

His best days are so far behind him. The Astros got all of those best days.

Good luck to whoever is footing the bill for him in Chicago now lol

Exactly and outside of last year they have not - yet I keep reading here like it's a recurring problem. Like if you post it then it's true.
