re: Central High School (BR) Coaching Vacancy

I’m hearing rumors that Templet is out as head coach at St Amant. I’m not saying this is official but that’s some of the rumors around here today. It’s a shame because parents have wanted him fired for a long time and it looks like they finally got him fired. Can’t stand our baseball parents. Ignorant SOBs that have no idea what they’re asking for.

which coach from st amant?
Posted on 5/22/19 at 12:38 pm to sta4ever
St Amant now has a culture of parents pushing out coaches who win playoff games. And with Lemons, state titles (4). This is from being around conversations with local HS coaches.
I know high school coaches read this forum and no one in their right mind would go there to coach. Templet wasn't far from getting past the second round this year and he was thanked by having to fight to keep his job.

Exactly. Spot on. He did make it to the second round this year. They upset 7th seeded Lafayette and lost to Destrehan in the second round but still, the man always wins when playoffs come around. That’s what he’s supposed to do is win playoff games and make a run.
Parents complain to the school board all the time about him and I guess the school board finally fired him. I’m sure that our AD fought hard for him but at the end of the day he doesn’t have more power than the school board who will easily cave into the parents.

Edited my post to reflect STA getting to second round.

Sports parents are a universal problem. Principals should always listen, but with a grain of salt and with context.

When we do good and win you can always see the dads have that look on their face like, “ok he won, but he still sucks as a coach” type of attitude, but the minute we lose they’re always quick to blame Templet. Then the dads are always talking about how their son doesn’t get enough playing time and stuff and I always think in my head “well it’s probably because your son isn’t good enough to play as much for a varsity program like St Amant.
Parents will eventually get our football coach fired too one day even though the things he’s done to make us relevant in football are quite remarkable. Lots of them were complaining about him this past year.
I just despise parents when it comes to high school athletics. They don’t realize how much harm they cause in the high school athletic world, especially here in political Louisiana.

This is a good little rule of thumb... Never have the kids you ride with when it gets crucial be less than half the roster in any sport.

Plenty people chatter via text/chat that would never have done so before.
Also people will email, text or message another parent, a coach, principal, school board member or AD things they would never have said in person before E communications.
also the new era of electronic stats and live feeds/video has mad this much much worse for some reason.. I gues 25 years ago everyone just assumed their boy was batting .390 and had a .990 fielding % or .03 era... well now they know.....
it ain't just LA though - i promise you that....
heck I doubt my parents could have picked out any of my coaches out of a lineup....

My parents, at least my Dad, always knew my coaches. Pretty sure they were more than ok with the coach requiring anything short of illegal. If was on the bench, my Dad knew there was a reason. Either I had fricked up or there was someone who proved to be better.
I literally laugh at stories of kids complaining to their parents about coaches being too tough. No way I would have had the guts to tell my dad something like that.

He took over a program that was going 0-9 and 0-10 to now hosting playoff games, beating Dutchtown, beating Catholic, and competing with Catholic in district. St Amant really isn’t known for having a great football history so the fact that this is where we’re at now is pretty remarkable. I don’t think we really have any room to complain about the state of the football program until we start having players that are going to play D1 football at a power 5 conference

BREAKING: Troy Templet will not be back as the St. Amant head baseball coach next season. Athletic Director David Oliver confirmed, saying the school is “making a change in the direction of the program.”
It’s official. Templet is out as head coach at St. Amant. Pretty sad for both St. Amant and Central today

This is literally all it is. I played for Templet at St Amant and yes he is mean but he’s demanding and wants to win which all coaches do. I never got butt hurt from him being mean, I just took it as he’s trying to make me a better player, so that the program can be better so I’m going to listen to him and not complain about it.
Too many pussies out there today because they’re use to being given everything. I thank God that I’m not like many people my age and that I was taught hard work and to complain less.

They won 4A state titles in 92, 93, 94, & 95 under Randy Blanchard.
