I did, and I actually appreciate it much more after moving back. It’s obviously about as average of a state as there is, so while it’s not a place to brag about, it’s not a place to be ashamed of either.

I’ve been there on several occasions and like you said it was average outside of the German restaurant near the Dayton campus. They had an outstanding setup and the food/beer was outstanding.

But the ones on the internet can be terrible.
I find this to be true of all teams and just all groups in general. But I think the fact that Ohio is such a football crazed state, from high school through the NFL, but specifically it’s more like an SEC state in regards to the crazy regarding college football. And with a pretty large population and no real rival within the state, I think we have such a large fan base with no affiliation to OSU whatsoever, let alone to any other university, we get a lot of obnoxious fans who care little or nothing about the university itself.

In college we used to have pretty big parties every game along with a bunch of the houses around us, and while it’s fun to talk a little smack to opposing fans, those that took it too far (throwing stuff at people; trying to start fights) always seemed to be from out of town (we even had 2 Michigan fans stay at our house for the 2006 game).

And this might sound sort of elitist, but I remember seeing a girl from high school on Facebook, who didn’t even go to college post something like “I would never sent my child to the University of Michigan” (although with more derogatory words).

And I thought to myself (and still do), if one of my kids got into Michigan and wanted to go, I would support that 100% and be proud that my kid is going to one of the top universities in the world, even if I rooted against their sports teams (unless my kid played on one, then I would be a fan).

It reminds that one of the most obnoxious LSU fans on this board (I think his user name is catsgonewild), who talks a ton of smack about OSU, is from Ohio (same town as my cousin’s husband, and my friend’s wife and it’s not particularly a place I would ever want to live at all) and I don’t think he has any affiliation with LSU (possibly any university at all).

He’ll even make fun of OSU coeds, and compare them to LSU’s, which is just super weird for someone from Ohio, who probably has no affiliation with Louisiana, let alone LSU.

Oh wait, I just noticed that Dan Hawkins's UC Davis squad beat Tulsa!

Hmm, this article says Tulsa finished 2nd in the AAC last year.

quote:

An uninspiring and uneven performance in the season opener turned into a full-blown disaster Thursday night for the University of Tulsa, which lost to an FCS-level team for the first time in 35 years.

A three-touchdown favorite, the Hurricane was affected by costly suspensions, avoidable penalties and a general lack of efficiency, resulting in a dismal 19-17 defeat against UC Davis at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Apologies to the Aggie I laid into last night in this thread. It was most definitely the alcohol talking.

I mean, when you have wide open receivers running around with no defender within 10 yards, how hard is it? OSU is average 11 yards per play.

I think even Vandy could prevent three scoring plays of 55+ yards.

Can A&M? They gave up 3 63+ yard TDs to Bama last season in their game. I would think A&M has better athletes than Minnesota has, so what is your reasoning now.

Bama is an exception since they're usually in the Top 2 for talented rosters every year.

I mean I don't think anyone is arguing that OSU has the most talented WR room this season. Olave and Wilson are first rounders in next year's draft. OSU and UGA are the other 2 teams who are top 3 in talent every season

On the other side, doesn't A&M have WAY more defensive talent than Minnesota does?

They might have the most talented WR room but it won't mean squat if Stroud keeps playing at that level.

Everything is better in the SEC, Buckeyes should have made mincemeat out of unranked Minny yet let them hang around.

One of my college roommates was from Cleveland and a big Ohio State fan. One time some of his female friends from back home who went to Ohio St came down to visit. One of them was shocked that Louisiana people didn’t wear hoop skirts and talk like Scarlet O’Hara.

Nah UGA has more talent, but Clemson always has better talent at QB, which is often a game changer

OSU did whatever it wanted in the 2nd half on offense. Minnesota couldn't stop anything. Took longer than I expected to get rolling but once it did it was scoring at will. OSU offense scored TDs on 4/5 of their real offensive possessions in the second half, with their 6th being the end of the game run out the clock.

OSU's defense has a crapton of work to do, but played last night without their starting corners. We shall see how that unit progresses

The game of the night tonight has to be UNC Tech? I think the SDSU CSU game could be a fun watch. Kap told me his OL is way better than last year for MSU, but it being Beth, not sure I can handle much of that one.

For sure. MSU/NW could be ok too and not a bad game to watch before the all day festival tomorrow

Three such plays in a span of six offensive plays? Minnesota was completely lost on defense all night. TBF, Alabama was otherworldly last year, they put up big numbers on everyone, including Ohio State. If Ohio State gets past Oregon (which I think they will), they should roll through the Big Ten. They do not play Iowa nor Wisconsin and their two toughest conference games are at home. Ryan Day still hasn't lost a Big Ten game.

I was just saying that teams give up big plays all the time and it’s not strange that Minnesota would give up big plays to an explosive offense

It will be interesting to see how much tOSU improves next week. It is very difficult to open vs a conference team, especially since the coaches generally have an idea of what you will do to them and vice versa. I think Stroud will be fine at QB I think that Day will start just running the hell out of it and that gets Olave more 1 on 1 chances. Which if they get those consistently tOSU will score a ton of points.
