I will go with Nike money for the difference between OSU and OU.

Corvallis may be a small town but so is Auburn, Starkville, Oxford, Fayetteville, College Station and Athens. Tuscaloosa isn’t much.

Meh hire for who? This is Nebraska we are talking about. Tom Osborne, his steroid freaks and the wishbone aren't walking through the door. This isn't the Nebraska we grew up with. Peterson would be a home run in paper for the current state of Nebraska

Nebraska should embrace its roots and go back to the Wing-T Option that they won 3 national titles with in the 90s...they should hire Army's Jeff Monken!! I don't think people truly realize the outstanding job Monken has done at Army. I mean they won 9, 10 and 11 games in consecutive seasons. He beats Navy!! He almost knocked off both Ohio State and Oklahoma in back to back seasons. Give this guy the resources that Nebraska has!! There has never been a time like right now, where the option can make a strong comeback. Nobody runs it and therefore, nobody knows how to defend it. Its very hard to prepare for in just one week. Again...go back to what made Nebraska football...Nebraska!!

I would've said this was a great hire a few years ago but he's likely enjoying the retirement and TV gig. Also, doubt he'd consider them as he was more of a west coast guy.

I will say this about this potential hire and the "west coast guy" thinking...its at least thoughtful in terms of the changing future. Remember, USC and UCLA are coming to the B1G. All of those kids from California that don't go to USC or UCLA, go to all the other PAC schools. With the PAC on its way to irrelevancy, those kids will now have to find another conference if they want to play P5 football and if they want to play against USC and UCLA. Schools in the B1G West are naturally primed to take advantage of those said athletes. Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota will now all be in the B1G West with USC and UCLA...hiring a guy like Chris Peterson who knows the West Coast (Boise St, Washington) and recruiting, could be a huge boost and an angle Nebraska is thinking about. Again, all of those Cali athletes currently going to Utah, Washington, Washington, Arizona St etc, might now be seriously swayed to go to a school like Nebraska??

Wing-T option?

What are you talking about? Nebraska didn't run a wing-T option.

Oh my bad...the triple option then. The point was they need to go back to the era of Eric Crouch, Tommie Frazier, Lawrence Phillips, Ahman Green...where they ran the ball down your throat. My goodness...way to let the point go right over your head over a technicality.

Damn sure worth a try.
They have next to zero talent to recruit in their back yard and can't pull elite players to the harsh Mother Nature experience.
Nebraska can be a career killer for somebody less accomplished than Peterson. Maybe him, too.
Monken is outside the box and could always find another Academy job if he can't get the Huskers to above .500 in Conference play.

Osborne was an innovative offensive mind, he would have moved on from the schemes Nebraska ran in the 90s.

Its not that Corvallis is small, so is Eugene. Its literally traveling back in time.

I went to a game there and the tailgate was guys standing around a burning oil drum drinking Natty Ice. Made West Virginia look like Harvard. And the shops....quaint old school. And really really white. No recruiting advantage. Just a hard sell.

They ran very little triple option. If the fullback got the ball, it was on a called trap play.

My goodness, way to demonstrate that you don't know what you are talking about and then try to put it off when called on it.

Corvallis is smaller and way more isolated than any of these places other than the MS schools. College Station, Athens, and Tuscaloosa are all close to cities. They are also smack dab in the middle of the best talent pool in the country so the isolation is less important.

Eugene-Springfield is a medium sized college town with a decent airport with flights to every major west coast city.

Oregon is also nicknamed UC-Eugene for a reason. It's stacked full of kids from California that got rejected from UC schools. A kid from LA or the Bay Area going to Oregon is perfectly normal. OSU is much more Oregon-centric.
