I laughed when it was mentioned in the thread last night that McCullers was starting, b/c it had to be a joke. Here we are hours from first pitch and it is obviously a reality.
For someone who wouldn't have flinched if LMJ was left off the roster, I am beyond shocked to see this happen. I would like to know the last time he even appeared in a game that the Astros eventually won.
For Hinch to open himself up for the criticism to most certainly follow a bad outing, he must have some fairly strong convictions about this move. Especially considering the Astros record in Peacock starts.
I am going to assume he wants one time through the order w LMJ, followed by twice through w Peacock, then if we have a lead, Devenski and Giles. If we trail probably Musgrove.

What are you babbling about? I'm pointing out for 162+ games, most of the people trolling the game threads cared nothing about baseball.
They are here simply to cause havoc because they bought a Yankees cap at their local Lids store when they were 12.
That has absolutely nothing to do with baseball.

I'm a bandwagon fan, last year I rooted for the Indians

Started against Seattle September 6 - 6IP, 4H, 3ER, Astros won 5-3.
The only thing that makes sense here is that he plans on using both LMJ and Peacock. Peacock has experience coming out of the bullpen - so it is logical to start LMJ. He's playing with house money - if LMJ is a bulldog like he was earlier in the year, Hinch looks like a genius. If not, he brings in Peacock and hopes the Astros bats come alive.

A.J. Hinch Is Right about Lance McCullers
I'd be surprised if LMJ went more than once through the order, unless he's just unhittable. Then you go to Peacock for another time through, then Devo/Giles to finish off if we have the lead.

Well, his outing against the Red Sox perhaps provides a clue. The results weren’t overwhelmingly positive — he gave up two runs in three innings, and his high BB%/high BABIP trend from the second half persisted — but in that outing, McCullers simplified his repertoire in a way that might make him a particularly good match-up against the Yankees today.

So what did Lance McCullers do in his outing against the Red Sox to convince the Astros to give him the ball today? Ditch both the four-seamer and change-up.
quote:
The results don’t show a marked improvement, but McCullers’ missed a ton of bats with his curve as you’d expect, and the Red Sox didn’t really make much in the way of hard contact against him. The average exit velocity on his seven balls in play allowed was just 81.6 mph, and one of the three hits he allowed was a 70 mph dribbler to short that Carlos Correa couldn’t make a play on.

If you live in Jackson it makes sense because they have the Mississippi Braves, but if you live in Tupelo or Gulfport it's not like you grow up driving three hours every time they have a baseball game.
So you live in state that doesn't have a baseball team. Okay, you have to choose a regional team. Does the 3 hours difference between Atlanta and Tampa Bay really matter? It's not like you can go to the games in Atlanta more than you can in Tampa Bay.
So you're a young kid and you want a team to root for. You don't have one close to you. Why can't you pick a good team? Are you supposed to not like good baseball?

They should post on their websites regional maps of what times you can root for. Anyone rooting for any team outside of their region should never be allowed to watch a game ever again. It would go a long way to clear all of the confusion up

hmmm so I should root for the Zeyphers (Baby Cakes) which means I would be a Marlins, Astros, Brewers, Nationals, and Mets fan

Look, I've got zero issues with fans. I'd just prefer to talk baseball and read other people's opinions on the game as opposed to the bullshite that the people I am talking about bring into these threads.

Sadly the Yankees fans around here no longer post since we use to have a daily thread that went 15-25 pages a night but no longer.

Eh I think this one just isn’t comparable to the “good” ones from a few years back. This team takes 10 times the quality at bats as those old teams and the only whole is the 9 spot as opposed to 6-9 in the past as well

Jesus Christ, who cares what fans are bandwagon, isn't this a thread about game 4?
We're about 2-1/2 hours out, let's talk about that

McCann and Beltran are essentially the worst of the 9, when in the lineup . Both provide great vet leadership though. Marwin, Guirrel, and Springer have really stepped up for some poor players in the past. Altuve hasn't changed and Correa has been good awhile.
Not saying this team isn't better, it is statistically but as a whole a lot of these players haven't changed from years past and Gray has had success against them.

That's a big negative.
Now, I *may* have called you an arse (or something similar) once or twice (but that would probably have been on the tRant and totally unrelated to baseball) ... but I'm pretty confident that I've viewed you as a solid baseball guy. I definitely probably called you a Yankee Homer during 2015 though.

I'm obviously in the minority, but I like the LMJ move here. If he's right, then it's obviously the right move. I guess that between his last bullpen session and outing vs. Boston our coaches saw enough to think that he was ready to go.
With that said I'd have a lightning quick hook with him if things start to go wrong

Then there is someone else
I am a Yankee homer, shite we are all homers to our favorite teams
