Damn.

I think he might have been a tad overrated, but he's still better than the average RP on the market.

gawd dammit man.

I was getting sucked back in by the Verlander deal. Then you go and announce this?

My emotions are trending back to Team TorontoDetroitMiami.

Didn’t they recently re-sign Kimbrel, too?

I can’t believe we couldn’t spend Joe Smith money on Graveman for 3 years

We gave Toro away by not signing him beyond the failed WS run

Correct and they are trying to trade him, his option was 16m

I may be in the minority here but I’m not mad about Graveman. 8 per year on a setup man ain’t nothing and relievers turn to shite out of nowhere all the time. He had his share of bumpy outings before the playoffs. I got no problem if they want to split that money up on 2 cheaper relievers.

I kinda agree. He came in like a lion, and went out like a lamb.

My memory is evidently not the same as yours

Graveman had about as many struggles last year as Pressly

They were the only real reliable guys

8 M is chump change for his numbers and having an arm come leverage time

I was feeling better with Stanek towards the end.

Graveman with the Astros: 3.13 ERA
Stanek with the Astros: 3.42 ERA (full season)
Stanek in the second half: 2.70 ERA

We need second half Stanek all season. And yeah it would have still been nice to bring Graveman back too.

I think it’s a pretty good deal for Graveman, would have been good with us giving it to him for sure. There’s plenty of good relievers out there and we need at least one

Thoughts on bringing Yimi back? Was decent with the Marlins, sucked after the trade but got some big outs in the post. I can't imagine he'll cost much.

Also not a major name but Montero is back next season I think. His stuff looked good in the extremely limited look we got at him. I guess worth a look at him in spring.

Yea I like Graveman because he was a real baw. He had some blowups in the second half, but ended up being pretty damn big in the post. if Click can rummage around and get a couple of arms for that 8 mil per that would be tight.

I wouldn’t mind running it back with Yimi. He found something in the postseason, maybe he just needed a roll before he could succeed. Also have Baez coming back, hopefully his dead arm is gone and he can be a factor in the bullpen

ETA: what’s the deal with Stanek? I know he was a free agent signed or whatever but according to baseball reference 2022 he’s 2nd year arb eligible. Does that pretty much mean he will be back next year because the Astros will offer him something? It’s so confusing I’d assume you lose that if you are a free agent and sign a contract

The Astros control Stanek for '22 and '23. He was a free agent signing because he was released I guess, but he doesn't have the service time to be out of team control. Weird situation.

One of Kaplan’s recent articles mentioned they’re high on Montero, whatever that’s worth. If he and Baez could give any kind of contribution that would be a bonus.

I’d take Yimi at the right price. Raley too.
