Alexander
Blubaugh
Gordon (I know, )
Weiss
Pearson (They signed him to be a starter, but I think Imai and Burrows might bump him back to the pen)
Ulloa is pretty close

Blanco and Wesneski maybe All-Star break but more than likely not back until after the lockout.

They have enough heads to cover the innings, just impossible to know how quality those innings will be right now.

There is a lot more depth on paper than last year. They need good and fairly healthy performances out of two of the Imai/Burrows/Javier group, but I am a lot more confident in our org to identify and positively change pitchers.

I am a lot more concerned about their ability to score runs going into the year personally

Yea until the pitching just absolutely implodes and is bottom 3rd of the league I'll just give blind trust to that department. Kinda worry about a regression with the 3 lefties out of the bullpen in King, Okert, and Sousa (I think all three are healthy?) but other than that the staff at absolute worst is full of MLB level contributors and not having to rely a ton on MILB guys.

Big agree on run production and power. Hopefully a full season of Yordan, Paredes, and Correa will make up for the amount of aggressive have to hit fastball early guys in regards to QAB's. It's for sure not an exciting group of position players, but it's an interesting group with a pretty clear floor and seemingly moderate ceiling unless Yordan goes nuclear and wins MVP with 40 & 120.

It's the most neutral I've been about a team in over a decade but still excited to see them play.

All things considered, I’m more optimistic about the team starting this year than I was last year. Health has to hold up though. If they can’t stay healthy, I can see it floating around 84 wins. Just enough to keep us in a race we can’t win. Thus, not trading away anyone for prospects, which would be a nightmare.

Here’s a link that breaks down the starters. It’s a couple weeks old so it still has JP mentioned.

Always room for a little rare positivity in here.

Yep. I have no clue why people keep listing McCullers as someone the Astros are going to rely on

Any scenario where the Astros are contending for the division and a championship includes a healthy Yordan parked in the middle of the order for 130-140 games

I hope you’re right.

But I just don’t see it. Our problem last year was scoring runs, and we’ve done absolutely nothing to improve that, other than assume Yordan stays healthy and also that Pena and Meyers repeat their career seasons from last year. The bench has been gutted. The one guy that has plate discipline, they’re trying to trade. Just not sure how we contend with a below average offense.

Trade news: The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Jesús Sánchez from the Houston Astros for outfielder Joey Loperfido, whom they had traded to Toronto in the Yusei Kikuchi deal at the 2024 deadline.

He’s back!

Dana said they “aren’t done yet”

Know they were linked to Joey Bart he’d be a great backup catcher option

Interesting trade. This definitely signals they aren’t done. I bet it happens fast and they have something lined up.

I’m sure the money saved is part of another move, either for a catcher or another OFer, hopefully both. Bart would be a great option as a backup.

I had wondered with all the talk about Pittsburgh and Paredes if there was something around Paredes + Sanchez for Reynolds Bart and some prospects, but this takes that off the table

Interesting salary dump, but not interested in watching Loperfido with his 40% K rate
