The article linked explains that teams are using the money before a future ruling will change how these transactions will take place. Sounds like a spend it now while you can scenario.

They are not paying him that much.
I mean go look at what a mid round NFL rookie makes and ask yourself if there is any way that this is true. Then ask why would the Duke Blue Devils be willing to spend more.
It seems like most of these college football Twitter insider types are complete dunces.

still calling bs
if that were the case they would get 4 or 5 top guys and really make a difference. That QB will never be in the NFL....this just can't be true.

You could field an entire team for $8M. You could build an entire field. Come on.

The article also has zero quotes from anyone involved in any deal, doesn't name anyone involved in any deal (other than the kid), and does not refer to any documentation related to any deal.
It is literally no different than you or I walking into our front yard and telling someone passing by that your sources tell you McDonalds has agreed to pay the guy down the street $8M a year to stop eating Whoppers at Burger King and start eating Big Macs. The difference being, your livelihood (unlike those of the "writers" at CBS Sports) isn't dependent on people listening to you.

Stop pocket watching and worry about LSU.

I wouldn’t give a nickel I found on the street to “NIL”.

there is no way that is true.....Duke has no chance of competing for NCs so why pay that amount of money?
You attract better talent to join when you do this. You also make sure your stadium is full for home games by doing this. The college isn’t paying it. They are just reaping the rewards.

Money laundering and wealth distribution.

That’s the way to do it. Go ball out in a small time conference put up big numbers and then get the bag from a bigger school.

The game is ruined completely

I don’t understand unless u got enough money to disburse to build a whole roster it makes no sense. I don’t understand why USC paid Jahkeem all that money but letting other star players walk it makes no sense.

Because he might be better than the players they let walk…
It’s easy to say forget the QB and get a few players to build a roster… but then you’ll still need a QB.
NIL helps programs like Duke who are in the right conferences in a position to take advantage of it.

The madness will stop at some point... I am almost certain the "market" for Nil athletes will settle and stabilize making this all much more predictable.. Its only a question of how long it will take to do that...
An an example of what that might look like is that a 3 Star DE in high school would be worth $X generally and a 5 Star RB would be worth $Y..
Who decides how many stars a kid has? I would say the “market” is better than just having Rivals and 24/7 with their biases

CBS must be really hurting for clicks.

Throwing money around to college players is why programs can't keep top talent throughout their college days from freshmen until they leave for the NFL draft if they are talented enough.
This is screwing up college ball more than any other issue they face.

Doesn't sound AS ridiculous. And while still crazy, at least I can believe that.
