Just watched the replay in slow mo frame by frame
I dont know if he got the first down since I couldn't see the ball (his back was turned), but it was definitely a lot closer than that spot was

Shafted on the fumble call, now the spot. Even if it wasn't a first down it was at least half a yard closer.

If you review and the call "stands" and is not overturned or confirmed you should not lose your challenge
If the replay is inconclusive you shouldn't lose your challenge
