OK.
I wanted to be certain, however. His last post stated, basically, that the split happened because players weren't playing in their home attendance zones.

That seemed to me to be an accusation, or an assertion that the privates cheat because people from all over the area send their kids to their schools of choice that are not, always, near their residence.

quote:

Part of the reason for the split is .....people playing for schools outside their home attendance zone.

Red pop that was index a reason for some schools pro split votes

My agenda is simple

Everyone wanted an lhsaa director that would enforce the rules.....

I'm not challenging you, mind, no ill-will, brother. I guess I barked up the wrong tree, as they say. But I appreciate you clarifying for me.

This is a hard case, however, with lots of bad P.R., and there's no good guy, at all, in this, while a kid gets his last year of high school ball taken from him.

I find it ironic that NOW they support Eddie Bonine. But human institutions are filled with flawed human beings. And IF Atwell is at fault for the things he said and did, he should suffer in some way, as well. That's unconscionable.

Thanks for the good discussion.

A reporter asked Atwell after Shaw beat them about the alleged things Robison said he did and he gave a smug look and No comment and walked away. The guy looks like a real douche.

actually it is an easy case, if you go by the letter(s) of the rules. The media and social media people are running with the "jersey" thing when that is a small part of the whole scenario.

The LHSAA never releases the whole details of the investigation and violations only generalities(perhaps this needs to change, but you are dealing with minors(mostly) ) The principal from H certainly has all of the information that the LHSAA had and presented/discovered - for them the EC to vote unanimously it had to be compelling. Perhaps the LHSAA should have a parent resource liaison for parents wishing to transfer - separate from the school they may leave or go to. I find it very hard to believe coach R did not know the rules. The family should have sucked it up for a few months and let him finish at VC.. it seems like both sides had an ax to grind.... sometimes grinding and ax doesn't make it sharper.

He should have no comment on it. The VC principal is the only one that should comment.

That's not what I meant about "hard case."
I meant that it's emotionally charged, maddening, with sadness, negativity, on every side of it.

There's no good side to this. No one emerges from this a winner. Even as cut-and-dried as it is, Bonine, no one comes out of this better off, at least, not in the short-term. There's the real problem. Maybe the "rules" will be followed more assiduously down the line, but what does that help or do for the young man? The kids get four years of their lives, only, and he's lost the last one.

I, for one, could understand if he'd blown out a knee or something in practice or a game, he's have lost his year in the actual playing or participating in the sport.

So did I.... By and large the transfer rules are adhered to and enforced pretty judiciously. What is adding fuel to the fire on this one is the amount of mis-information such as... Oh his dad was fired how could he stay(honestly does a kid need to play where his dad coaches - NO), and.. OH he just wore a jersey...

hypothetically - what if his dad had conversations about transferring while he still had a job at VC?

transferring senior year is incredibly risky - minus a bonafide move or hardship - and it appears as though they had neither of these

Perhaps he has been told he can't comment?!
Only one side of this story has been heard...the family has had a solid PR campaign bashing the coach and the school!
Back to my post.... was this a bonafied move?

I lost all of my sophomore year and all but 3 weeks of senior year.. so in effect I did lose my senior year.

Well his kid was likely getting free tuition while he was employed there. That is likely why he was not going to go back. I know growing up in a Catholic School, all the faculty's kids went there for free. It was a perk because they weren't getting paid very much to teach there, but there kids could take advantage of being there for free.

No it does not appear that it was based on a couple of points in the rules.

Faculty’s children at VCHS get reduced tuition on a sliding scale for years of service the faculty has worked. NOT FREE!

This was not about money!
That is a smoke screen! This is about not following the rules! Nothing more and nothing less!

The kid probably didn’t want to stay, we all should understand that! It also is likely he has NEVER played a game without his dad (as his coach) on the sidelines calling the plays. They were a bit of a team.

I would image the Coach R was fired for a reason... that is not something that should be taken lightly! Not sure he was a good coach, but KNOW he wasn't a good teacher...
On top of that... Dad/Coach/Teacher missed an exorbitant amount of work time promoting his athlete son around the country and other things. Just check the Facebook page promoting the student athlete. It tells a good bit of the story and what is MOST important to this Coach/Dad. Anything for his kid. We all love our kids, but as a parent I find it a bit disturbing! Fill in the blanks with what has transpired over the last few weeks and I believe a clear picture can be painted.

Again, very sad for the student athlete... who is definitely a gifted athlete. No question there. But rules are rules and fair is fair... Every student athlete should be treated the same and follow the rules, gifted or not!

I’m just not sure how Vanderbilt Catholic or the LHSAA thought this was a remotely good idea. They’re both getting destroyed by the press. I think people would understand if the kid also got 4 games, but a year is asinine.

Did VCHS "think this was a remotely good idea?"
I do not believe VCHS issued the ruling.
They did however issue a public statement that the ruling was too harsh!
And yes, the school is getting crucified. I would imagine that there could be plenty of things said by the school, mostly confidential, that would clarify much of the confusion. Perhaps that isn't the right/legal thing to do!

Although most don't see this side of the story... thoughts and payers to those that have been "destroyed" without the ability to defend their integrity. This is not to say that everyone did everything perfectly and by the books.. we all know that rarely happens as we are all human! But VCHS faculty and administration have integrity and are being accused, tried and crucified by the press and public without defense. It is not right, those involved know the truth, LHSAA knows the truth.
The truth would most likely clean up a lot of this mess.

Why do we as a society think it is OK to not follow the rules. There are rules in life and if you don't follow them there are consequences! I'd like to think that is my number one job as a parent to teach my child. NO ONE IS ENTITLED TO BREAK THE RULES!
