It's not obvious in the GIF and Harbaugh probably didn't intend it maliciously, but the video shows that it was more of a dismissive shove to the side than a pat on the back.

Clearly, Harbaugh was not giving the handshake the same level of 'priority' or 'respect' that Schwartz and/or most coaches do...for this game. It was an emotionally charged game for Harbaugh, so I don't place a lot of blame on him. He's been very cordial/humble before so I know in his NORMAL nature, he would have given Schwartz what he wanted. I think the way Harbaugh briefly shook his hand, didn't really give eye contact, gave him the arm in the back (which is the equivalent of side hugging a girl) just rubbed Schwartz in the wrong way. I don't blame Schwartz for feeling disrespected...but I do blame him for acting like a baby at the end of the game. Take that shite out of the public view.
In the end, Harbaugh - 1. Schwartz - 0
In the end, Harbaugh - 1. Schwartz - 0

Schwartz's reaction is a direct result of the deflecting "aww, we were lucky to win" type of handshake they have been conditioned to expect from their counter-part as part of this league. Anything beyond that and it feels like disrespect.
Any other professional arena and it's no big deal - instead Schwartz is acting like Harbaugh told him to go home and get his shine-box.

God damn... are some of you really this clueless, as to actually believe that Harbaugh "did nothing wrong?"
Haven't any of you ever heard of sportsmanship or mutual respect?
The coach of a team is supposed to be above childish antics. He is expected to be the highest moral authority on a team and to set an example for others to follow.
We have all seen coaches exchange handshakes after a game, which is almost always a televised ritual in which congratulations and acknowledgment of each other is exchanged. You know what it looks like. You know that even if the two coaches hate each other, they are expected to at least fake it for 3 seconds. There's a right and wrong way to do it.
Harbaugh's way was the wrong way. He approached Schwartz quickly, shook his hand agressively, slapped his back and brushed past him as though he were an annoying kid seeking his autograph. As if Harbaugh did not have the time to interrupt his glee for one moment to face and talk to Schwartz as an equal.
The fact that this happens after such a well fought and even contest makes the exchange even more shocking.
Harbaugh's failure to acknowledge Schwartz as an equal is his failure in sportsmanship here. The fact that it has to be explained to so many of you clearly shows that you lack education in basic sportsmanship. Honestly, I'm not surprised.
Did Schwartz have a right to be angry? Uh... YEAH. Should he have gone after him? No. That's clearly an error in sportsmanship on his part. But none of this mess would have happened without Harbaugh acting like an a-hole.

are these rules written down anywhere?
when does his aura of lying/bullshite begin and end? when is harbaugh officially allowed to be happy about the win?

Schwartz is just pissed that Harbaugh's going to steal Coach of the Year.

Pretty much sums up this 9 page thread.
Harbaugh acted very unprofessional, but I don't believe he meant anything by it at all. Just a highly emotional guy after an emotional game.
Schwartz should've taken it up with him out of view with a call or something. He looks worse here by chasing him down like a 7th grader on the school yard. Be the bigger man, jeez.

You are clueless.
If you and I were to meet, I would extend my hand to you in friendship, as is the tradition of our society. It is not written down anywhere that I have to do this. Nevertheless it is expected of me. That is an unwritten rule of civility that is real and tangible in this world. We do not follow only the rules that are WRITTEN. And you know this. If you don't... there's something fundamentally wrong with you.

What if Harbaugh doesn't acknowledge Schwartz as an equal?
Then there is something fundamentally wrong with HIM, as evidenced in his lack of sportsmanship.
What I'm learning in this thread is that I don't think some of you actually know how to react to winning. Do you all just... not win much?

Do you really think Harbaugh meant anything by it?
He just shook his hand very hard, the pat on the back didn't even look anything other than customary to me.
Was it the most sportsmanlike thing in the world? NO, but not enough to warrant being called an a-hole either.
Schwartz' vagina was just hurt because he shook his hand too hard and didn't go with the typical "we were lucky to win" sentiment after the game.

different situations with different levels of emotions lead to different actions
harbaugh isn't blameless, but what he did wasn't a big deal. schwartz lost his fricking mind over stupid shite
i don't like reacting to emotions in a punitive nature, which is what the NFL likes to do

Harbaugh looks like he just won the Super Bowl by a lucky last second play, and disrespecting the opposing coach....
Harbaugh accepted the blame:
"That's on me. Handshake was too hard."
