I've said this time and time again. The players that you see recruited from there are usually on full-ride scholarships. It's a way to sell the place, because that's what parents see and think their kid will do the same.

Rich people can be dumb though.

I can see maybe Tennis or Golf, but even that is borderline as I think if you have it, you'll find your way anyways.

Let a kid be a kid.

Went to IMG Tennis Academy for 3 weeks in back to back summers in high school.

It’s an amazing environment to learn and grow in as an athlete. All the facilities and amenities you could ever want, and everyone who’s there is there bc they want to get better.

Sure to a degree. But the point is if you want to be the best train with the best. Furthermore, a ton of those kids are from places with very limited facilities. If you want to play golf and live in troy, Alabama or tennis and live in Pascagoula, MS and you are a stud in your sport then you are very limited. But at IMG, you have everything you need.

77k is a lot of coin for anyone. The amount of people paying that like it’s nothing to them is minuscule, wealthy people got wealthy by being smart with money not by blowing it. Most of the Brayden’s going there are likely there by their parents loaning money.

Honestly, I don’t get the allure.

If IMG wants you, you’re already a beast. Is IMG really going to make you that much better over a year or two? Is it worth leaving all your friends behind and spending your senior year somewhere else?

It legit seems like a scam to me. I’m glad all of the schools in my county refuse to play them.

That's unreal. For context, I'm pretty sure Newman in Nola is like 22k per kid. 77k??!!!

you dont become a top 10 beast by being happy with being in the top 500...

At IMG you're paying for the exposure.

And the 77k is there to weed out kids they don't really want. If they want you you're not paying 77k

Alot of the AJGA junior players lived here when I played in high school.

For free. Think Ty Tryon.

They agree to let IMG rep them when they turn pro...

Little widely known secret. The agents pay the school. The school gives them access to the kids that make it

Didn't it used to be Nick Bolleteri's school?

Yeah...I highly doubt that IMG is taking kids who aren’t on anyone’s radar and turning them into 5 stars.

Taking a top 50 kid and turning him into a top 20 kid? Sure, but how much value does that have? He’s still getting offered by the same elite programs. Recruiters aren’t out there saying “yeah, I know who the 2nd ranked pass rusher in the country is, but I don’t know who the 6th is because he didn’t go to IMG”.

Between the coaching and facilities, yes they 100% will.

I have no doubt that they make kids better players, I’m just not sure it’s worth it.

You’re giving up your last couple of years in High School with your friends and family when in all likelihood, you’re going to be a beast at the next level regardless.

I guess I can see the argument of showing up to college ready to play from day one, which increases your chances of being NFL ready early, but I dunno. There are a lot of assumptions in that. I guess I’m just more of a “let a kid be a kid” type of guy.

Yep. Now the football players are not the ones offsetting this for the most part. They are all mainly going for free. IMG started and is a spinoff of Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

And there are no parents that are more delusional than a tennis parent. 1000s of kids with no potential had parents willing to pay the exorbitant tuition so players like Agassi, Kournikova etc etc could go for free.

The tennis kids are still the ones funding most of the tuition payments.

maybe not, but they'd like all kids to play against the best competition possible... in games, and more importantly, in practice

It's pretty wild to me that tennis parents are as delusional as they are.

You can be pretty much any shape or body type and carve out a valuable role on a baseball club.

But tennis, I feel like tennis ain't no joke.

My son better show SERIOUS promise before I drop stacks on expensive training.

Wow...their science department must be first class.

Must be a big feeder school for MIT and Caltech.

Multiple reasons, but your are right. There is nowhere to hide on a tennis court....

Reasons for delusion in parents

1. Alot of foreign parents. They either have huge bank rolls and dont give a frick, or they are pouring everything into the hope their kid is the ticket out of their hell hole and cant see he/she will never make it

2. American parents that didnt grow up with any clue how tennis and the junior tennis circuit works. Little Johnny wins a couple of local tournaments in Iowa, and now they think he is the next Sampras so they will send him off to an academy just to be used as a money bank. Little Johnny will be completely ignored and into some serious drugs at 15 and a complete frickup

Well now..

Sounds like glorified prostitution.

I wish I would have given tennis a shot when I was younger. I'm pretty sure I would have been really good at it.

All the kids going can't have parents who can afford this, there must be a loan program etc for top athletes.

What weeds alot of good athletes out is their willingness to give up alot for tennis

Were you willing to give up every spring break? Almost every high school dance and party? No summer vacations with friends? etc etc
