Isn't it funny, the Commish everyone, including the players and fans of his sport made fun of every day of the year, is now one of few who has a back bone.

overall he's been a bad gm for the game, but he's low key in national news due to the players being 95% white. He doesn't have to deal with the black players moaning and groaning, kneeling, protesting, bitching, and all that other bs.

ETA - Bettman watched the northern teams move south because he couldn't negotiate arena deals with owners and cities, only for most of those cities (Winnepeg, Minneapolis, Quebec) to realize their mistake and build arenas to get their teams back. A good commish would have sat down with those cities leaders and not let so many teams move in such a short time frame by simply explaining the financial benefits of having a hockey team. IT'S STILL A DAMN CRIME THAT THE NORDIQUES ARE STILL NOT BACK.
Manfred, however, is the worst of them all. It's clear he doesn't like the sport he governs and has pressed all of his stupid changes trying to shorten the games as if that's the problem and not the lack of marketing his players or teams.

First of all, growth only measures what happened, not what might have happened otherwise.
So looking at a league and saying "well it grew financially so this guy did well" doesnt take into the fact that it maybe grew in spite of itself or could have grown more or could have grown equally AND been a better product.

true, but I can't measure what didn't happen

again...all true, but I can't measure or judge things based off things that didn't happen
if I have an employee that is being productive and meeting goals, would it be fair of me judge that employee as a failure because I think they should be doing even better for some hypothetical reason that I made up in my head?

Well we can actually look at the product on the field. We dont have to measure stuff in our head.
You cant disregard product quality due to sales/viewership when the leagues in question have a monopoly.

Um, Jim France isn't the President of NASCAR. Steve Phelps is. And has been since 2018. As a matter of fact, Jim France is the CEO and has never been NASCAR president. Now Brian France, who Phelps replaced, was a dumpster fire. Phelps has been excellent!
