At a few of my job stops, a big problem has occurred when the best salesman was promoted to lead an entire business line. They are amazing in the trenches. They are great at motivating people. But, managing an entire business? Many times awful. They don't have clue one about HR, a Balance Sheet, an income statement past Gross Profit and on and on.
And they have tons of experience in the single most important aspect of the business.

It was the Nationals with Jim Bowden and then Mike Rizzo came over from the Braves.
The amount of talent in that organization was astounding. Hell, same with the Cubs.
I didn’t make it very far at all. It took me a long time to get on board with all the changes I was being asked to make. Then as I started to mature physically and find some legitimate velocity, I started pitching away from contact(walking people) which kept me from ever having consistent stretches.
I was drafted as a projectable lefty who knew how to pitch and turned myself into an idiot on the mound who didn’t know how to pitch. Then I tore my labrum and that was all she wrote

Jalen Rose: Analytics are racist
So out of the 3 Fab Five members that stuck around the NBA for any length of time, Jalen and Webber both have high profile analyst/commentator jobs at major networks and Juwan has had a nice career as an NBA assistant coach and just landed one of the top head coaching jobs in college basketball. I'm missing where Jalen is seeing racism?
Hell, Alvin Gentry sucked as a head coach with multiple teams. Only made the playoffs twice in 12 seasons. And he still got hired by the Pelicans. Guess he had that "experience" Jalen was talking about

I'm confident the average NBA player doesn't even know how to spell analytics.

Before I went to check if you were fricking with me I thought to myself, “well, this isn’t the first time I’ve done this.”

However I don’t understand how anyone could agree with Rose or think he is making insightful comments
Well if you just look at some "progressives" on Twitter, it would help you understand. There are more people out there than you would think who shoehorn race and "cultural overtones" into just about any topic you could dream up. It really does boggle the mind that people have so little hardships in their life, that they can sit around and spin anything into a negative for themselves.
People of color, and everyone else for that matter, are better off today in the vast majority of the world than in any other time in history. But here we are with people telling you and me that statistics and analytics are racist and demeaning.

Everything is racist.
And everyone is Hitler.
And everyone is Hitler.

I wouldn't say analytics are racist, but they are anti-labor. They don't have to be, numbers are numbers after all, but the whole point of analytics is to get the maximum amount of production for the least amount of dollars. The reason everyone talks about market inefficiencies is because you are trying to find things that help you win without having to pay full value for it.
So players should rage against analytics when they can. It's taking money out of their pockets, particularly in baseball where we've seen the collapse of the "middle class" and contracts for over 30 players on top of service time manipulation to prevent players from reaching their full earning potential on the front end of their careers. Star players are the big winners, but the rank and file players get hosed.

There's a natural backlash when a player sees some math major that can't touch the bottom of the net tell the player he needs to do something different or that the player sucks. Who is this nerd to talk about stuff he can't do?
That said, analytics are valuable. You do yourself a disservice ignoring them. It isn't cultural, it's an organization trying to be their best by gathering maximal data.
This.
Rose would have made a reasonable point from a player perspective if he'd left the race angle out of it.

#1 Jalen Rose likes to talk slowly and use many different words while saying the same exact thing because Jalen Rose thinks that will make you think he knows what he is talking about when in fact #2 Jalen Rose likes to talk slowly and use many different words while saying the same exact thing because Jalen Rose thinks that will make you think he knows what he is talking about and if you think that is wrong you are a racist and if you think it's right you are a racist.

ESPN ran a show called numbers never lie that gave the same look at stats.
Guess who was on it
He should come out and say it. It's only a problem when the stat comes from a white person.

I agree. Rose feels the same way I do about analytics in sports and he should’ve focused on how they make sports more sterile and efficient rather than the race angle which is BS.

He is always on the players side. Right or wrong. So of course he is respected among them
