Rumor is the resignation was over disagreements with the new president who is trying to reign in the athletic budget by upwards of $9MM. If true, then it sounds like the hints of moving to FCS may be more than a rumor.

If this is true then either the president has pulled a fast one on everyone or everyone was on board with a massive cover up.

From the coaches interviews to Hartwell himself everyone has had glowing comments about the new president and how she is all behind the athletic department. You're not gonna to come out and slam your new boss they Vincent especially has gone out of his way to praise her even when an answer didn't need to include her.

Roughly one third of the budget.

James Madison beat writer.

JMU guy has an axe to grind with ULM so we'll see

6-9 million is almost impossible without basically not offering athletic aid

I'll admit I'm out of the loop on G5 drama, but what on earth could a JMU beat writer have against ULM athletics?

JMU fans are upset with a western add (Tech) and think it was fueled purely by ULM's AD publicly saying it would help with budget. They also don't realize not everyone charges $5k/year in athletic fees.

That would be the reason.

Even cutting 6 mil is absolute insanity

If we cut 9 we deserve all the hate we're about to get

I will believe it when I see it but it makes no sense to do it at the point where were finally actually get money from student fees etc. But we'll see I guess

ULM had previously requested to be a football only member and the SBC off denied that request.

SBC refused to do that for Idaho and NMSU so I don't know why ULM would think they could get it done.

Probably thought being a longer term member would pull some weight.

As good as Bruno was for the academic side of the university I’m glad he’s not around anymore to frick up the athletic side

Exactly.

Coastal and JMU fund 84% and 81% respectively of their athletic budgets with school dollars, whether student fees or other sources.

For comparison, Cajuns and ULM are 53% each. Southern Miss is 51%. Per this link which appears to be 2023-2024 FY budgets.

At the time we moved up we were incredibly successful at the FCS level

We fricked up the transition by having to be independent and then the name change which pissed all the alumni etc up

I don't think anyone has been dumber planning out tht move but we were good enough football wise to do it

Not to be argumentative, but no. It’s even going to be worse now with nil.
