Ice hockey is the national sport of Canada and they lost in the championship against a sub-tropical team...

They’re a cute little country and all but Florida is the hockey capital of the world.

You’re not wrong. But I am happy we even have those now. Outside of initial success from the expansion draft, it was just depressing for many, many years going to games. In a destination city like Miami (its close enough to Miami and the first rink was there), how could you not put together a good team? Especially with the success Tampa has had. Whenever a snowbird team came into town, there were more of their fans than our own. It was a hostile environment like being a Vandy player playing an SEC team at home. Before new ownership took over, it was just hopeless, but at least we had a hockey team. You’d be surprised at how many die hard fans are down here, they just arent loud because none of us could have even dreamed of this. Just making the playoffs semi-frequently to me would have been enough to keep us happy. Going to two cups in a row, and actually winning one? Unreal. We hate Tampa and even Tampa fans were pulling for us

South Florida has a championship in all 4 sports now!

Yes but it has been 51 years since the Dolphins won a SB. For the majority of younger Dolfans like myself, sure it feels like they never have won anything. 1992 season was the closest they have been and that's over 30 years ago! It's crazy. And the Marlins are up there and no sign of competing at at championship level.

However, I predict Dolphins will reach a SB game within 5 years.

Once the Marlins changed from Florida to Miami they became dead to me. Those old uniforms, the colors… so good. frick their stadium too. RIP to the Orange Bowl.

being barely older than the Panthers and going to super cheap games 20 years ago was so much fun. This is my favorite championship team I've enjoyed watching for all South Florida sports.

The OB was full of history and tradition, but that building was a POS and it was falling apart. Went to several concerts and Canes football games there but the facility sucked big time.

I actually went to a few home games at the old Miami Arena In their inaugural season back in 1993. They had Johnny V in the net who they got from the Rangers. Coached by Roger Neilson. Always had a liking to them.

Moved to West Palm over 20 years ago from uptown NOLA. Best move ever and now I get to savor a Cup as a lifelong Panthers fan. Wake me up from this dream.

Whatever, they have a real dedicated core group of fans. I remember back in the day, ESPN would clown on the Panthers and try to stir up relocation rumors with photos of the empty stands during the games. Everyone should love the story of the rise of this team.

1993 is more than just a long time. Especially considering how arrogant Canucks are about the sport. Being from Michigan, I know this more than most. I'm so glad that the no cup streak was kept and I hope it keeps going.
