She is doing great.
This could be a very successful Olympics for the US next month, across many sports.

I’m ignorant here, I thought she retired not doing that great. Like not being in the top 5. How did she come back and now seems to be not only a medal contender but a gold contender? Did everyone else regress and no new blood come around or is she just somehow all of a sudden great again?

She won the bronze medal in 2019 in her signature event at the World Championship and then retired. She was regularly winning and placing in races the year before so she hadn’t fallen off.
I assume she had some surgeries that she delayed once she retired, and took her rehab very seriously afterwards.

She had a partial knee replacement. Her knee is part titanium now.

Doing all this with a partial knee is insane.
