He's great but best ever? Nope.

Also not fair to rule out a guy because he didnt' win it all. Elway and Marino, for example, didn't have running games or defenses. Their arms were all that won games for their teams. Thankfully, Elway got Terrell Davis but his arm was not what it once was at that point.

This against a guy that never won a title. FWIW I don't judge a QB off of the fact if he won a title or not but a lot of you do. That is a team award not a individual one. But you are saying he would have to have two rings and the fact that he has better stats to be in the discussion.

It’s a balance of everything. For me, the fact that Marino put up the numbers he did on the era he did goes a long way. But yeah if you have a Drew Brees doing what he’s done, albeit in a QB friendlier era, with 2 titles then I don’t think you can put Marino ahead of him then.

When you’re talking about the absolute cream of the crop like this you have to split hairs somewhere.

I would like to see how Drew would do against a 49er Defense that allowed Ronnie Lott and Eric Wright to dish out those hits on receivers and Charles Haley to actually hit the qb.

People keep saying this, so where is the dividing line at? IMO the big difference 1978 and the Mel Blount rule. Any rules since then to help QB's as far as protecting them I don't think has made a big difference in production of the QB's and offenses. The difference today is the way coaches approach the game.

This is just false. How can he be overrated when he owns a lot of the career records. That's not rated numbers those are factual numbers. That system QB lingo is bullshite. He is one of the hardest working athletes ever.

Stats can be misleading. Football is played and officiated differently today than in the past. I expect above average QB’s to put big numbers. His numbers are inflated because of the system he’s in. Brees’ numbers has him in the top 5 all time if you don’t watch football. If you really watch football and now the game. It’s no way you can put Brees in the top 5 all time.

Marino would be so good if he played in this nfl. With all the rule protection, he would be insane.

On the MSB it's about personal stats, not game results.

Brees is playing at a time when everyone is putting up big numbers.

While Marino had a 1984 season that was a freak of nature at the time.

Balls where throw downfield deep, no dink and dunk like today...

Marino threw 48 Tds that year...16 more than any other QB.

Marino also won the passing title by almost TWO full games of passing yardage over his next competitor.

And he had a 108.9 passer rating, 6 points higher than Joe Montana.

Eli got to two. Won both. Want him over Marino or Brees?

Marino played in a much less QB friendly era. Under today’s rules his stats would have been otherworldly.

I think too much is made of the rule changes. It had an effect but overall speed and athleticism of defenses today has sort evened things out, particularly the speed among elite pass rushers.

People say that everyone has been putting up huge numbers but if you look at it, the only ones who were consistently at the top year after year were Brady, Brees, Rodgers, and Peyton Manning over the last 15 years. Brees is still playing at a level above most of his peers and he's 41, that's insane.

Marino had the Marks brothers for most of his career that helped a lot and there is something to be said about having playmakers on the other end of the pass. Duper and Clayton being open a lot and being fast meant a lot.

Side note: Mark Clayton should be in the Hall. If Lynn Swann is in Clayton should have been in years ago.

This is where you lose all credibility.

The nfc south has had every team in the last 15 yrs or so to make the superbowl. Tell me how that is historically worst?
