Something about his statements, and his celebration after being drafted (if that's the right way to put it), tells me that he's going to be in everyone's faces with the sexuality stuff.

He knew the cameras were on and obviously wouldn't tone it down. I say that because most male/female couples(draftee and girlfriend/wife) would not have done what they did on camera. He's daring the public and the media to make an issue out of his sexuality.

If he truly wanted for his sexuality to be a non-issue, he would do all in his power to not let the issue be raised, both through his words and actions.

After Years or nearly 2 decades of hiding who he was he should be applauded for not being a closeted phony.

Gays have been hiding for Centuries from bigots like you so pardon their new found freedom.

Just like the outrage /controversy interracial kisses caused in the past(still today in some circles) you will have to get over your homophobia & accept that you will see more men kissing one another on TV in the future.

I weep for the lack of logic on the MSB.

He's going to be contesting against guys stronger, bigger and quicker than him. He's really going to be shocked when he's cut.

Put upm or shut up Michael....and I better not see you or your followers blame you not making a roster on being gay. Lotta guys who were good in college never play an NFL snap.

Even if he doesn't make the active roster, he has a good shot to make the practice squad. He's little undersized as a 4-3 DE, but he has long arms and he doesn't give OTs much room for error. As an OT, you can't get sloppy with your footwork or hand placement or Sam will make you pay. He gets to the QB with a sense of urgency.

He's slow, weak, and has no explosion.

The only way at his size he sees the field is at an OLB position, and he is WAY too stiff and slow to cover a rb.

He doesnt make second cut.

It's going to be funny when he gets cut seeing all the handwringing that the rams are going to have to do to avoid the PR hit.

He'll probably get "injured" and placed on IR to avoid this.

He's slow

He ran in the 4.7 range at 260+ at the Missouri Pro Day. That's not slow.

quote:

no explosion.

He doesn't have elite-level explosion, but you don't put up the kind of numbers he did in the SEC without being explosive.

He jumped 30" at the Pro Day. Factor in that he strained his hamstring, he's probably capable of getting up a little over 30". Not great, but not bad for 260+.

quote:

The only way at his size he sees the field is at an OLB position

If he were an OLB in a 3-4, he wouldn't be undersized. As a 4-3 DE, he's a little undersized, but at 6'2" 260+, he compares favorably to the top 2 DEs in sacks from last year (Both 4-3 DEs):

Robert Mathis - 6'2" 246 - 19.5 Sacks
Robert Quinn - 6'4" 264 - 19 Sacks

Quinn is 2" taller, but compare the arm length. Quinn - 34", Sam - 33 3/8".

quote:

and he is WAY too stiff and slow to cover a rb.

He won't be asked to do that in the Rams' defensive scheme.

his combine time was awful. Teams use the combine #s

He put up those number because of Ealy on the other side...who DID get drafted in rd 2, and WILL play.

Not great, but not bad for 260+.

He's not competing against 260 pound people..hes competing against the best athletes on the planet.

The Rams run a 4-3. He will NEVER see the roster with the defensive line they have. His only chance is one of the OLB...too slow, too weak.

Robert Mathis - 6'2" 246 - 19.5 Sacks
Robert Quinn - 6'4" 264 - 19 Sacks

you're really comparing this guy to Robert Mathis?

President Obama congratulated Sam on Saturday for being the first openly gay football player drafted by an NFL team.

“From the playing field to the corporate boardroom, LGBT Americans prove everyday that you should be judged by what you do and not who you are,” the president said.

Thanks Prez. The irony in the asinine statement is that the guy WAS judged by what he did (poor measurables and combine numbers) and not who he is. Yet, we are being told that none of that is the reason he fell to the 7th round.

He ran a 4.91 at the combine. That put him towards the bottom of the list.

His vertical was dead last at the combine.

Quinn ran a 4.7 at the combine and jumped 35 inches. It's not Quinn's size that makes him special.

Unless Sam surprises, he's going to be a one dimensional player. The Rams see him as a situational pass rusher.

Hopefully, all of the intangibles that he has raises his game and he outperforms everyone's expectations. It wouldn't be the first time that has ever happened.

I can't believe I am seeing this GIF

Espn, really?

Sam really? Did you just get married too?
what's with the cake?

I am sorry, but I am disgusted by gay's public affection. Although ESPN is in their living room, they certainly took advantage of the limelight..making it public

It's morally wrong, simple as that.. Keep your junk to yourself.

Combine says 4.91.

Combine says 25.5".

Real numbers.

Those are not good NFL combine numbers.

I'm glad it's basketball playoff season so I can tune into TBS and the NBA channel and avoid the gay porn on ESPN.

If it didn't work out, it also wouldn't be the first time that a guy that gets drafted in the 7th round gets cut by the 4th preseason game.

Bullshite. Now you're just discrediting the guy's achievements.

This implies that Sam was getting a free rush to the QB because opposing teams were sliding protection toward Ealy. Prove it. Prove that Sam wasn't beating opposing offensive linemen to get his tfls and sacks.

He's not competing against 260 pound people..hes competing against the best athletes on the planet.

I don't know where you're going with this. It's not a bad vertical for 260+. Generally, he's going to be competing with OL that jumped less than 30".

I was comparing the SIZE because you said:

C'mon, that was obvious. I don't want to sit here and rehash the point-counterpoint.

I think you're a little premature with your certitude, but you may be right. We'll see.
